The Bloggers With The Most To Say

Is it possible to set the forums to an inline view as opposed to a threaded view?  If it could be done on our end it would be great.  I find it next to impossible to follow a conversation when replies end up under the post that you hit the reply button on.  Everything moves around when there are replies and there is no chronological order to it.  I don't know if anyone else feels the same, but it makes my head hurt.

WHATCHOO TALKIN' BOUT WILLIS?

Well, what happens is that people either reply in the main reply box, like I am.  Generally, one would assume that if they are doing this, they're replying to the main conversation.  These do indeed post in chronological order.

However, where things do get a little messy... Say I just wanted reply to Harley's comment.  There's a "reply" link under her comment.  If I click that and reply to just her comment, it will post under her comment, nesting it into hers.

I'll admit, it does get confusing at times.  But personally I don't know if there's a better solution.  I know D & Lisa wold be up to hearing about one.

But to answer your question, I do not think that you can change the forum view for yourself individually here on ning.  Might just need to keep some asprin near by for heavy forum use.  Sorry.

Right, I spend a lot of time on other forums and generally instead of threaded replies they just use a quote feature when referencing a previous post.  Just makes time flow forward continuously rather than zig-zag.
I quite like it, but I wish the new replies were shaded in a different colour, so you could just scroll down and see. Also, I wish you could view all replies on one page (so when you scroll more are added to the page, similar to how Facebook shows album pictures).

Neither of those are a possibility, unfortunately.

It's either flat or threaded -- flat being that replies would be posted in chronological order -- I don't think it automatically includes a quote from the thread you're replying to, if I remember correctly.

I even double checked the settings... I agree, having different colors would help, but I can't set that up in the forum settings.  Sorry.  If it's something you really want, send letters to Ning.

Ah, didn't think so. The Ning forums seem quite outdated with some of the newer net technologies. I might email them, doubt they will care though.

Is there any way to remove the annoying 'feedback' tab? I use it in a small window (as i'm hiding it from work people) and it's so annoying :(

Not unless we remove it completely.  You'd have to take that up with D & Lisa.

I actually like the way they're setup.

The only complaint I have (and I KNOW others have said it before, and I'm not trying to harp on the admins, because I know they work tirelessly to keep this place running) is that I wish I could choose to only get emails when people reply directly to me. The IMDb message boards work that way, but I'm sure they have a team of pro-coders working to make that happen.

But, if Ning ever opens up and lets you guys do that, it'd be nice. Just saying :)

I 100% agree with that!!!!

Ning's made a lot of improvements, but agreed, they still have a long way to go.  I think if people voice this directly to Ning, it could help speed things along.

Exactly. I agree with many of the suggestions people are making but because we use Ning, we can't make these changes. I've found Ning to be VERY receptive and helpful so send them an email and you'll probably hear back!
yes, they need to switch it up like most other forums have it.  as it is now, you have the most recent posts on page 3 of 7 or something, and nobody knows who is responding to who.
