20 Something Bloggers

The Bloggers With The Most To Say

Alright. So it's no secret that 20SBers kill blogging on the daily. We're one of the best communities on the web and we've grown in leaps and bounds just over the past year. We blog quarter life crises, career revolutions, roommate meltdowns, sex romps, and so much more.

My question for you is: what are the quintessential 20-something references that show up across the 20SBlogosphere? Is it the Fresh Prince? NKOTB? Slap bracelets?

What 20-something cues float your boat and who are the bloggers that use them best?

For me, it HAS to be Oregon Trail references. They SLAY me. And I have to give props to Rachelskirts for using them best.

Under the Umbrella Tree = WIN.

Was that a Canadian thing? Don't know if the Yanks know about it.
In your imagination, you'll find an invitation, under the umbrella treeeee.

I don't know about its story of origin, but the Disney Channel played Umbrella Tree for quite awhile. I was obsessed. Gloria was my fave.

However, come to think of it, most of the awesome kids stuff from when we were all growing up was Canadian. Wasn't Nickelodeon originally a Canadian company? Tons of the early shows were Canadian.
There is far, far too much use of 'Oh, and?'

Or, alternatively saying something juicy and following it by 'What?'

No idea if it was popularised by Lilu (of LivitLuvit fame) but it seems that about half the female blogosphere seem to use it :P
You noticed it too, eh?

I think it's weird when people use incorrect grammar to indicate cadence but it honestly does help me envision them saying it in real life.
I feel like so many of my kid-hood memories are Canadian. I grew up only being allowed to watch TVO (TV Ontario). I just recently found out that The Magic School Bus is a Canadian TV Show. THE REST OF Y'ALL MISSED OUT! So if I were to get into quintessential... nobody would understand me but other Canadians. Like that red Roots Olympics cap.

I also was only allowed to read "good literature" so Sweet Valley Twins books were off limits. I snuck a few one time, but they just didn't compare to Nancy Drew. I read a lot of Farley Mowat! Right? Anybody? Oh wait, he's Canadian too.

Okay how about:
"That's so funny I forgot to laugh"
Misused not jokes... like "yeah, you can come play with us... not"
"Psych!"
SKIP-ITS! They were the best.
Ohhhh the Skip-IT. I broke that thing faster than it counted to 99.

The Magic School Bus is STILL golden.
They played Magic School Bus in the US-- although maybe being that I'm from Montana and I've been told that means I'm practically Canadian, I can't speak for the entire country. Anyway, yes, my brother and I were Magic School Bus Freaks.

Also, SKIP-IT. Yes.
