The Bloggers With The Most To Say

Hi Bloggy Buddies. I’m officially requesting a favor. Here’s the 411. My baby (read: 5’10, 180lb) brother is on the cusp of his Sweet Sixteen. I’ve been thinking of what I can do to celebrate his birthday in my coolest-older-sister-ever type way.

Whenever I think of turning 16 I instantly hear No Doubt’s “Sixteen” in my head. Bingo.
I’ve decided to make him a mixed cd full of quintessential songs about being 16, a teenager, in high school, etc. So far I’ve got “Sixteen,” and “Teenage Dirtbag” on the list. Here’s where I need your help. What else can I include? What songs make you think of turning 16 and surviving high school?

Also, male twentysomethings, help me out! I’m not sure what’s “cool” for teenage boys to listen to, and he’s all 16 and angsty so you know he’ll scoff if I load up a cd with Ani Difranco.
It would also be cool if you could include a little blurb about why you suggested your songs. I’ll put together a little Song Guide for him and include your web address (if you wish). You can post things here, on my blog, or email me at ablogofherown@gmail.com. Thank you all!

Hilary Duff had a song on her first CD called "Sweet Sixteen." For a boy, that likely won't work though, so I'll keep thinking, ha.
"Teenage Riot" by Sonic Youth, the quintessential cool song about being young for any fan of indie rock.
"What's My Age Again" by Blink-182 might be good for a guy. Also Beastie Boys' "Fight for Your Right (to Party)."
