The Bloggers With The Most To Say

Big hoo-ha in the UK about university initiations at the mo.

Don't know about anyone else, but (Nazi overtures aside) I am distinctly non-plussed about uni/frat initiations.

If you want to get involved in them (and I did), then you take the rough with the rougher with the distinctly unpleasant with the smoothe!

When I rushed my sorority, I stuck with the idea that this was a personal choice I had made. No one twisted my arm, my parents weren't legacys, and none of my friends were rushing/pledging. I'm a firm believer that if you pledge and you find yourself in a situation that you are uncomfortable in you have a choice to throw the towel in and say "no thanks!" If you're one of those people that harms yourself, winds up in the hospital, or in jail...you have some serious soul searching to do.
A sorority at the school I attended had their national chartership taken away because girls ended up in the hospital. I went to school in a very cold climate and the temp would drop well below zero. This particular pledge class was ordered to stand in the snow barefoot, for hours. Obviously, more than one girl suffered frostbite and a few lost toes. If you are that desperate for friends that you don't realize your health is being compromised, you should probably be in some form of therapy.
It all comes down to knowing yourself and finding what you are willing to do.
Can I just point out also, that I posted this in the "anything else" category, not 20SB meetup and I have NO IDEA how it's ended up here....

Sorry all, can it be moved back to the anything else category?
When I rushed my sorority I knew it wasn't going to be all fun and games-- everyone should know that by now. I definitely disagree with a sorority or fraternity putting their pledges or members in physical danger, but nothing like that happened when I pledge.

When you enter into the Greek system you should expect that people are going to give you a little crap, but then you're brothers or sisters for life.
