I might expect name-calling from the 6 year-olds I teach. I might expect it from my girlfriend's 4 year-old.
Who don't I expect it from?
Grown adults who should know better.

I perceive what's happening as a little more serious and disgusting than that actually.
Politicians have historically used tactics of sleaze, but this looks to be the most derisive/sleaze based one off all time. What bothers me most of all is the outright hate and lies which the media tend to ignore because face it they love this stuff it makes their rating go through the roof. It is because of the American people's lust for this that is plays so well, and will keep on coming. Better than reality TV, and from what I hear reality TV is like a mainstay for half of America.
The rallies are getting pretty ugly from what I can tell.

Politians have never been able to resist the mudslinging. But I agree 100%, it is annoying and super childish.
I think most people would rather they NOT waste so much time and energy on bashing one another. Just think all the money they could save by getting rid of the ad smears? Instead they could start campaigning like a grownup who discusses their stand on different issues and puts together a plan on how they would run the country if they became President.
Wouldn't that be refreshing? Doubt it will ever happen though. Politics will be politics.
