The Bloggers With The Most To Say

I'm clueless. How do I buy/register a domain name?

What is the cheapest way to do it?
Anything tricky I should know?

HELP!

If you are not going to host your own blog go-daddy is fine, if you plan to host your own blog than you usually get the domain with the hosting and you do get to choose it.I have a couple of domain names at go-daddy which I used when my blog was on blogspot.
You can get from Blogger directly if you don't plan on moving to Wordpress. They will take care of the redirect from your blogspot to the domain and you get to use Gmail for your e-mail (you@yourdomain.com) and get Google Apps to manage your domain. Google will host your content for free the way they do with your blogspot blog.

Under Settings, go to Publishing. In there you'll find a way to purchase your custom domain. It's $10 so it's pricier than some, but I love it because it's less of a hassle.
I second this. Piece of cake.
The good thing about getting from Google is you're already on a blogspot account anyway. They will still host your blog for free. You're just paying $10 yearly for the domain, and that's it.

If you're on Wordpress, you can get a domain and have them map it for you but they will charge you for the domain AND the domain mapping. Google does the latter automatically and for free.
I like 1and1 for just registration purposes - GoDaddy is actually pretty renowned for having terrible customer service and bad customizability (and that's straight from someone who used to work there), so I'd recommend staying away from them.
Yeah, fortunately for me I haven't had to deal with any of this since getting a gridserver on Media Temple.

By the way, if anyone wants free hosting and just wants to pay for the domain, I'm more than happy to host you on my grid. :)
If you are interested in hosting it yourself and all that I would strongly recomment http://www.hostmonster.com
I am a massive fan of them. The price is pretty good and the best customer service I have ever dealt with. I haven't had any problems with them at all.
Thanks for the advice everyone!

i'm hoping to have my own domain in a month or so! just have to budget it in! :)
