So, you know that you have arrived in the blogging world when you get your first "anonymous" comment that calls you a bitch/whore/stuck-up/crack dealin' carnie who does not deserve to live on planet earth. Much to my delight suprise I received my *first* yesterday. I wrote a reply. Then promptly deleted it along with the comment.
Question for ya'll: How do you deal with negative comments? Do you reply or do you delete?
.......Or do you hunt them down and remove thier fingernails one by one with pliers? No?
I don't get too many nasty ones probably because i don't have that many readers. But i do get a lot of spam ones where they are just using my post to link to their own sites. I deleted those- they can spam somewhere else.
I pretty much write posts trying to invoke negative comments. I haven't gotten any yet but I'm still working it. I've written some pretty over-the-line stuff but because I tagline my site as "humor" I think most people don't take it seriously - which is good. Those people who don't like my site tend to just leave. I have noticed trends in viewers and subscribes drop after certain topics... which is interesting.
I don't know, I mean you could get into this whole discussion about how the essence of blogging relies upon openness and this is AMERICA and it's all about free-speech - and yes you could use vocal intonation to emphasize your passionate feelings on blog commenting...
personally, I think it's not worth spending more than like 3 seconds thinking about. I've never gotten a negative comment, but when I see them on other blogs, I usually laugh. But, if you're not into it - delete it. Done.
Side note - is that you in the photo? Seems like a really beautiful shoot!!
Never received an anonymous comment, but definitely have gotten my share from people I know(well not know them, but know of them). In fact someone even went so far as to post a link of a rant that they dedicated to me on this here discussion. I initially replied to their post on here, but went back and deleted it. Not because I'm ashamed, scared, or any other cowardly reason, simply because I'm tired of drama with them and really just feel like I should leave it alone. People claim to want you to leave them alone, but are definitely quick to try to bring things back up. You would think if people would want to be left alone they wouldnt write things that they know would incite the normal person to be pissed off and react. But I guess since I don't want to be assaulted online anymore I shall just keep my mouth shut. God forbid I fall into a hole they dug for me. If youre bored, then by all means respond..if the person cares to remain anonymous then screw them. If they had a real problem with you they would be bold enough to respond with their name posted proudly. Its the people who hide behind the anonymous tag who's opinions should matter the least. I hate having convos though status updates, so ask give them your email address and tell them to address their concerns there and stop hiding. But definitely dont bite your tongue, respond by all means..address their concerns even if it takes 4 years to get to a resolution. If its important enough to you, you will want to get to the truth of the matter. But keep writing what u want. Just make sure you have your facts straight before u foolishly assume somethings an issue and go off for no fuc$ing reason. Doing that only makes a fool out of you, not the person you think you are attacking.

I usually delete them- even if I know who they're from. If I want to talk about something on my blog, then that's up to me- but don't go dragging our dirty laundry into my entries when it's entirely irrelevant (like so many of my friends have attempted to do in the past). I have mine set for signed in comments only, and I delete anything that really irritates me. by all means, disagree with me in a civil, respectful manner, but don't troll and call names- that's just childish. Other than that, they don't get an acknowledgement.
I just hate how people can be so immature. You don't have to agree with everything I say, but is it really necessary to use "bitch, whore, slut, etc.?"
If they're attacking me personally, it's gone. If they're attacking my topics, my posting, whatever, it's gone.
But if they are making an argument/attack about the things that I actually wrote, as a negative comment, then that's fine. It gives me a chance to respond, defend myself, and drill my point home.
