The Bloggers With The Most To Say
To delete or not to delete? That is the question.
So, you know that you have arrived in the blogging world when you get your first "anonymous" comment that calls you a bitch/whore/stuck-up/crack dealin' carnie who does not deserve to live on planet earth. Much to my delight suprise I received my *first* yesterday. I wrote a reply. Then promptly deleted it along with the comment.
Question for ya'll: How do you deal with negative comments? Do you reply or do you delete?
.......Or do you hunt them down and remove thier fingernails one by one with pliers? No?

Haha - I usually take them down if they're REALLY bad and then email them asking 'if they think i'm such a whore/bitch/slut, etc. then why in the WORLD do they INSIST on reading me!?'. Other than that, I ignore them.

as much as it should not affect me, it does, hard to ignore.
but when a person gives me a negative comment and they leave an i.d, i sort of respect them for whatever opinion they might have about me. I just think its really chicken to diss someone anonymously, they acting so tough bitching you out and not even dare to stand up for who they are. low man.
I dont usually delete unless it is very offensive that other might be affected by

It can get pretty ugly at times huh? A friend of mine made her blog private because some old man was leaving filthy comments about her TWO year old.

Actually you can set it so that blogger emails you whenever you have a new comment. i can't remember which bit that's under now, though, sorry.

i don't think anonymous slaggers are even worth a reply. although my blog didn't allow anonymous comments, i remember noticing an anonymous person had slagged off my comment on another blog once. it totally gets you down, doesn't it? why do we let people do that to us? most of the time they are probably just coming onto our blogs to be "controversial". I say screw them all.

I'm pretty new to the blogging world and I've never had one of these comments but I think if I did get one I would keep it only to look back at it later and laugh. I agree that if a person is going to talk crap to you by leaving a nasty comment their surely need to have the balls to leave their name.

Hmm. All good advice. I think its going to really depend on the comment. I'm not against people disagreeing with me but mean, spiteful comments just for the heck of it suck. You notice how the worst ones are always from the cowards (AKA anonymous)? Stab me in the front peeps! Don't be a wuss.

Oh man, I have LIVED this a few times and it's such a horrible feeling- sorry you got one. I have to say I've done and tried everything- I've ignored them (and left them up), ignored them (and deleted them) or went all out and reponded to them in their own blog post (I only do that for the truly nasty ones that are so ridiculous that I have to say something). I know a lot of people will say they feel better just deleting them, but honestly, I get a rush out of replying. Not in an aggressive- I hate you too- way, but just in an almost mocking way and how silly and small someone's life is that they feel the need to do that. Besides the fact that it allows me to defend myself, it also let's other bloggers see that there's another option to just feeling bad and deleting it. And a nice bonus? People are often horrified and how nasty some people get you usually get some really nice comments afterwards. ;)
After getting my fair share of negative comments- I have to say I'm not a fan of keeping them up. I think sometimes we confuse people who disagree with us with those who leave nasty comments. If someone disagrees with something I write or challenges me on something I've said- I will most definitely keep that up. But some person who stops by just to call me names? No way. My blog doesn't need that. And honestly, who benefits from keeping it up?

I don't delete disagreement I have that often, and I've had periodic long drawn out arguments, even with regular readers, but plain old troll calling names just gets zapped. If it offers nothing to the conversation going on then it will get deleted.

I don't really have trouble with anonymous comments, but one of my REAL LIFE FRIENDS left an unnecessarily harsh comment on a post I had written about something I'm already semi-sensitive about and it upset me so much it made me cry. And I never cry. I would have normally taken it down, but she's my friend in real life, you know? I'd rather just believe she didn't mean it to be so horrible and try to deal with my own issues that made me so upset about it. But yeah, I'd probably delete and/or mock anonymous trolls.

I've not received any that have been too bad. Usually just anonymous commenters going "err, like, Ugg boots are way cool and you are a stupid face, meehhhh" or something...in which case it kind of speaks for itself because they're clearly wrong and illiterate.
I've had negative comments on other sites though. Once I commented on another site, an american blog run by a waiter, who had done a post about tipping. I responded with a typically Brit attitude (in my own name) and got quite a hefty backlash from his regular readers. That was amusing, especially as quite a few chose to correct my spelling and grammar but ended up messing up their own in the process. http://sleepingeyes.blogspot.com/2007/09/with-love-from-ass-and-mor...
But, like I said, negative comments are usually anonymous, in which case they speak for themselves in their stupidity. If you haven't got the balls to say it with a name...I'm not that arsed. It would bother me more if it came from a regular reader.
