Horse...by accident. All the more reason to learn the language quickly when you move to a different country. My dad, on the other hand, willingly ate whale blubber, a variety of bugs, and a chicken embryo (a delicacy somewhere crazy).
It was ground up with some sauce and shoved in some sort of breaded meat concoction. It was really no different from any other breaded, meaty sauce thing I guess? I wasn't a huge fan but I was also eight years old at the time and am now a vegetarian. :)
I'm Chinese, and we eat a lot of 'weird' things. LoL Some of the stuff I've eaten include:
Sea cucumber (nasty - hated it)
Chicken/duck feet
Shark's fin (a delicacy)
Duck tongues (lol - really yum, actually, the way they cook it!)
"1000 year-old egg" (which is really a preserved kind of egg - someone told me that they had it on fear factor before, lol.)
...and that's all i can think of off the top of my head.
Thanks for sharing. Let me just say that I have always been fascinated by Sea Cucumbers and always thought they would taste absolutely great! Perhaps it all depends on how it is cooked?
Chicken feet...I have eaten it but it looks horrible, especially if they just toss it in a bowl with other pieces of chicken. Luckily, mine came on its own and I was just curious to find out how it tasted. There was not much of it to eat so it's kind of a waste of time, isn't it?
Shark fin...this is something that makes me very, very sad. I have seen documentaries on how they are obtained, and so all I can say is: those poor sharks.
Duck tongues? How many ducks does it take to make a plateful of that? A whole field! lol
1000-year old egg? Hmmm, you didn't say what you felt about eating it. Did it taste...rather off?
sea cucumbers: i think it's really more the taste of the sea cucumber that i don't like - the sauces they use with it are fine, but i hate the actual sea cucumber!
chicken feet: when i was little i actually asked my mom if she was eating baby hands. LOL! that freaked her out, but i love them now, just cause of the way they're cooked for dim sum - normally in an XO sauce w/black beans. yum.
shark's fin: yeah it isn't very nice how they obtain it, and probably also why it's so expensive! it's still yum though.
duck tongues: they're actually pretty expensive per tongue, like US$1.25 each! haha
1000 year old egg: it's yummy. i love having it in congee, or chopped up with tofu and served cold. heehee it looks pretty gross tho, green and black and the egg white is jello-like.
