No, I haven't read the series, and that's the purpose of this discussion. Obviously, the Twilight series is marketed more toward teenagers/young adults - then again, Harry Potter wasn't aimed toward an adult market and somehow managed to gain a wide following.
Is the Twilight series a good read? Or am I going to stumble over poor writing - that's a criticism I have heard - and far-fetched content? Clearly, vampires aren't the most realistic subject matter, but from an adult perspective, I'd love to know what my fellow 20sb folks think about the series.

I have just bought the first book in the series so give me a week and I will let you know. Ha ha. I have only really heard good things and mind you I am a massive vampire fan, that I am sure I will end up loving it.
I started out reading the Twilight series to mock the Emo's on my blog but to my disgust I ended up loving it! I have read the series (Twilight, new moon and eclipse) twice now. Infact I started reading Twilight at work, finished it then went and brought the other two while still at work!
I wasnt really a Vampire fan beforehand but I like the Twilight Vampires.
I can only say YES to the first three as I havent read Breaking Dawn yet.
Hope this helps
I think the Twilight Series is a great read! I didnt jump on the bandwagon like most people/teenyboppers (I'm not a teenybopper btw lol) I finally watched the movie with my husband one night in March and just fell in love with it. The books are much better than movie. It's not SPECTACULAR writing but they ARE great reads! You can just feel everything come out of the book! (if you're a visual/imaginative person) I think you'll have fun wih the Saga :)
If you are looking for a good, enjoyable while entertaining read than the Twilight series has all of that. It is what I would call a beach read, something that can draw you in and get you hooked. I read all 4 books while on an 8 day vacation in Mexico last year.
I've read it. I am something of a lover of vampires in my fiction. It is exactly what people have said it is. It is not the best writing, the plot is far-fetched, and the characters are stereotypical of teenagers.
However, if you're looking for something to pass the time - just want to see what the fuss is all about... then you won't really be disappointed. I'd try to get the books used (cheaper) haha.
I managed to get them from a friend at work who didn't even want anything for them. I think breaking dawn is shoved under my air conditioner at the moment.
I have read the first two books and I am halfway through the third....it is a romance book about vampires so how realistic could it really be! The first book I read through in one night and the second I read just about as quickly...I've been having some trouble keeping my interest through the third but it is still a decent read...
The main complaint that I have heard from other people about the series is the lack of sex! haha! I guess since it is directed toward teens it wouldn't have any of that (plus the writer is Mormon) but they build it up so much I found myself screaming at the book for them to just do it already!
AGREED!! This is the main complaint that I've heard! lol It was frustrating! I'm interested in seeing how they are going to do that in the movie too! haha
Also I got frustrated ALOT with the whole Jacob situation & whiney Bella!
I wouldn't necessarily call the writing fantastic haha but they are a quick and addicting read. I think I finished the whole series in less than a week.
I refused to touch them at first but then a blog friend and I decided to give them a try to see what the hype was in November. Then I proceeded to force the books on everyone I talked to and they all loved them too.
Edward does set incredibly unattainable expectations for future relationships though. My love life is ruined because of Twilight hahaha
I'm COMPLETELY with you (and others) on this. I was all like "NO WAY AM I READING ABOUT VAMPIRE LOVE" and then I did and I fell hard and got sucked in (pun intended...?), and loved them and like Jamie, forced them on everyone I knew. I'm still actually trying to do that.
So - the writing's not groundbreaking or anything, but the stories are great. And I heart Alice.
The writing is crap. Absolute crap. That being said, I devoured all four books. Reading Twilight made me feel like a giddy 14-year-old girl. Definitely worth reading, but know that the writing is awful.
As I just said on Twitter when Jamie posted this link, I was not expecting the discussion I started in August to crop back up!
But since posting this, I've read the first book and I've started on New Moon. Without reiterating EVERYTHING I thought about Twilight, I'm just providing a link to my blog entry about it: I've come to suck your blood.
Not a shameless plug, I swear. But I wrote this right after finishing the book - and watching the movie, so what I thought about the film version is there, too - and it's pretty lengthy, in depth and most accurate to how I feel.
However, needless to say, I liked Twilight enough to buy New Moon. That has to say something, right?
