The Bloggers With The Most To Say

To my mind, swear words are a part of our language, and hold a place in our spoken and written expression. It's become something of a pet peeve of mine when people choose to censor swear words on their blogs. I completely respect anyone's decision to not use profanity. Also, I understand that sometimes terms of use of certain blogging communities or platforms prohibit their use as part of their terms of service.

I'm by no means a fan of swearing every other word (though it can be fun when you're angry), but I do find that swear words can be used effectively and creatively.

So here's my pet peeve: I get annoyed when I see people NOT typing out swear words in their entirety. Many times, it appears as "sh*t" or "b*tch", or occasionally the classic "f#!@". To me, I think we should rejoice in every aspect of our language, and if we choose to use it, we should use it completely.

That said... what is YOUR take on profanity? Do you prefer not to use it, to edit it with special characters, or to use it completely? Why?

I like the latter of the example a lot more.
While I agree that you don't generally NEED swear words to get your point across, I find they can be used to intensify your point. This could go any way... it could magnify anger, or it could make something funny. It just depends. That said, I'm floored that people yell "cancer" as a swear word. Is this a fairly new thing? I agree, it is a very hurtful thing to say, especially as a form of profanity.
Cancer as a swear word? Never heard that before. Saddening -- and incredibly offending -- if that's indeed happening.
Well, gratuitous cursing is one of my interests, so, clearly, my blog is uncensored. I say 'em every day, so it would be completely disingenuous if my blog were profanity-free.

As a side note, I'm a big fan of combination swears such as fucktard, ass clown, shitteous... You know, mix it up a bit. I don't like to be TOO predictable.
I try not to swear on my blog. My audience increasingly consists of co-workers, and I generally want to put forth the most professional image I can over the Web, because I know future employers will be Googling me and will undoubtedly find and read my site (I'm quite easy to locate, mostly on purpose). Generally if I can't say it without profanity, then I need to re-evaluate why I'm saying it in public in the first place.

Note that this does not go for face-to-face conversation. ;)
Jared, I think that speaks to why we all blog. I do my best to make it very clear that my blog is personal and I keep it very separate from work. I also keep my last name private on my website, which allows me a little more freedom in that regard. I rarely, if ever, blog about anything related to my schooling or profession, so for the most part I figure that helps keep things separate and safe.
I generally use it when i feel like it. However sometimes I get confused and "bleep" out bits of it. This is because when I'm typing (personal) emails in work I always do this so it doesn't get caught in some sort of filter, so sometimes I automatically do it in my blogs and fail to notice! In general I just think if you feel the need to swear, just do it!
I, too, am akin to curse like a trucker so I DO censor myself a bit on my blog... but you may notice the censoring isn't complete. I still drop F Bombs here and there but I limit it. I know I'm not completely anonymous on my blog, so I try to maintain the slightest semblance of sanity.

Cursing is, indeed, one of my favorite pasttimes. So is blogging. I can't keep them from being good friends. It's meant to be.
I tried to stop cursing in real life when I started working with children. I didn't want something to accidentally come out of my mouth that would get passed back to a parent or one of my superiors. As a result, I feel like I've found equally colorful ways of articulating my feelings/experiences in real life and by the written word.

Also, my mother is subscribed to my RSS feed and that's just not the way she raised me. She'd cry if she read "fuck fuck fuckity fuck" on my blog or something else of the like.
I don't curse in my blog, mainly because I just feel like it ruins the prudent tone of my posts. However, in real life I curse consistently, although I know I shouldn't. Why shouldn't I? I don't know. I'm Christian and perhaps a bit of the moralist spirit keeps an eye on my expression, but practically I've never seen what the big deal was. I guess it all depends on how you use the words.
I try to use the symbols only because I tend to blog at work..and it could raise a red flag on our server if I am posting a lot of profanity. Otherwise..I totally agree it's annoying!
I like the censoring, scratch that I LOVE IT!!!!!

i guess cause it's how i say stuff when I talk I say F-ing/ effing , what the F, write WTF, i say F-er. I dont care. but when im pissed i curse like a sailor.

anyways BUT my pet peeve is sites that dont let you write it!!!! and they edit it. I want my freedom to curse when i want to, and choose not curse if i dont feel like. just dong fucking edit it!! to *****
