The Bloggers With The Most To Say

I've heard whisperings about this on other blogs, but has anyone else notice that their comments are down and/or their lurkers are up? I still have a healthy number of comments from a lot of fantastic people, but I am finding it odd that they have dropped quite a bit from months prior, while my stats say I have more readers than ever before!

Maybe I'm just trying to convince myself that it is not because my writing has gotten progressively less interesting ;)

I think people read more blogs now. I know I comment on my standard reads from a few years ago and tend to read a lot via reader, so that might be why I comment less. I don't comment as much and really sometimes I just don't feel the need to comment. It easier to comment when your reading ten blogs a day then when your reading fifty so it may just be the volume out there now.
It's not really about trying to get comments for comments sake, honestly-- I already have 100+ on my g.reader, so I know I'm doing enough of the networking side of things, and I don't want it to merely be about reciprocity! I was more just wondering if people had noticed things getting less interactive... I have decent traffic, and regular visitors, but they've just been saying a heck of a lot less!
I just heard a few others state that they had seen a similar drop, too.
I honestly think it's just the summer-- people are spending less time in front of their computers.
This. I was about to comment the same. It's also the end of summer when many 20sb's may be preparing to go back to school, or getting in their last minute summer trips.
I'm glad you brought this up. I've noticed I get decent traffic from lurkers and visitors to my site, but I've noticed over the last week or two that my comments are down. I'm hoping it's summer-related but you're not the only one who has noticed this. I just try to remember that the number of comments doesn't matter as long as you're happy with what you post, but when you're used to a "certain number" of comments on a regular basis, a dip is tough to take.

I recently wrote a post that I thought was hilarious and great and it didn't get the comment traffic I hoped it would, but I try not to get discouraged.

It's just that "time of year" much like around the holidays, etc.
I will say i get a few comments here and there and maybe less than 10 people are subscribers. It sort of bothers me, but than I feel that I'm blogging now for others, but for myself. Which ever direction the comments or traffic goes, I'll continue to blog and just see what happens. It's always good to find different methods to ease everything back up to your satisfaction as one poster mentioned.
I definitely have noticed this- although I've also noticed I've become quite good at predicting what sort of post will get 'more' comments, and what will get less. I have also noticed my traffic has really increased lately but the comments are down. I know for me, being away on holidays and having less time in general to comment on other people's blogs has probably played a role in it.

As for you Miss Pointful, rest assured- your writing is as interesting as ever!
I love reading blogs but don't always comment because most of the time I can't think of anything to say.
My blog is fairly new, but I receive very few comments. I figure it's a combination of my blog being niche and the season, but I wish people would, if only to know I have repeat visitors.
My comments have always varied wildly from day to day. One day I'll get loads and the next day maybe nothing or just one or two.

Since using a different stat counter thing I've realised just how many people are simply reading without saying anything, as before I didn't really know how many people came back everyday. Sometimes three or four times a day even when there are no new posts. Strange. Recently though my returning visitors have gone up and up, but there are no more comments than before. In fact, I think there are less.

Not really too arsed about it though. It just gives me something to look at when I'm bored.
July/August has just been slower. I think it's an all around thing. I've been trying to comment more myself though.
