I try to always pack a lunch and some snacks so I'm not tempted to buy food. Sometimes I forget or run out of time in the morning to make it, but I've gotten a lot better and saved quite a bit of money from it! I figure buying lunch tends to run me $5-7 a meal so that's up to $35 a week!
I'm awful. I'll always bring a Lean Cuisine as a "backup," but if anyone announces "We're going to [insert much yummier option here]? Want anything?" I so can't resist. Oh well.
On Sundays I'll make a supersized pad thai dish or something and pack it up into lunch sizes for the week. Then I'll usually buy crap from the café anyway so I don't really see the point...sigh...
Fortunately for us, our company caters lunch every single day so saving money isn't a problem. But in my previous job, I definitely brought in left overs for lunch the next day. It saves you so much money! :]
I almost always buy my lunch. It's stupidly costly. This last week though I've brought my lunch in and I think getting into the habit of it is a really good thing. You save $50 a week by bringing in a lunch!
I'm gonna have to start doing it. Once I start something I'm pretty good at following through. It's just the starting part that I have a hard time with.
