Microsoft Office: Is The Ultimate Steal worth paying for?

So Microsoft has extended it's deal to slash prices on its Office Ultimate 07 package for college students. As long as you have a valid school-issued email address you pay only $59.95 for a package that retails at a $519.99 on Amazon.

That massive discount makes Office more affordable than most textbooks but even at that price, is it really worth it? Personally, I think so. The Office suite is hands-down the best there is but you can argue that some of the programs included in Ultimate are unnecessary for most users and that there are free alternatives like OpenOffice that does a decent job at mimicking the basic features of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Let's not forget Mozilla Thunderbird vs. Outlook. I explored this more in depth in an article on JoblessNCollege.com.

Let's hear it, is The Ultimate Steal worth paying for?

Apple does make equivalents for a few of the MS Office Suite. Pages=Word, Keynote=Powerpoint, and Numbers=Excel.
I have this Office package, and tbh, I only use Word out of it! All the other programs are installed, but I never use them.

However, for the price then it is defintely worth getting it. In the UK, the Office student package only contains Word, Excel, OneNote and Powerpoint and has an RRP of £120, or $220 ish - if I was a student in the US and had this sort of deal, I would jump at the chance, rather than having to fork out what I did. Ouch!
I got it and it is AWESOME!!! $60 for the entire WORD suite (minus FrontPage) is a steal. I got it as soon as I found out and it's great!
That's not a bad price at all. AT ALL. I'd spend the money on having a legit copy.

Too bad I'm not a student. Anyone want to hook me up with a valid school email?
I find myself using Microsoft Office less and less. Google Docs does everything I need and i can access it from anywhere. Plus Google Spreadsheets and presentation work well too. As far as outlook goes.... GMail all the way.
I don't think it's worth it if you have basic needs that Open Office or your current versions of the MS Office Suite take care of. It is a very good price, though, and if you would use it, I'd say go for it.
I use Microsoft Office and would buy it for 60 bucks, but any more and I'll find some other way to get it.
Or, if you're like me, you straight up steal it if you really need it. Not worth my dollar. Besides, the Apple iWork programs work just fine for my purposes.
haha exactly.

I usually swipe a copy from work and put it on my computer (then take it back of course). If not I make one of my techie friends find me a copy on the internet.
