The Bloggers With The Most To Say

Kimberly

A question for the married or engaged ladies, and maybe the guys too.

Did you help pick your ring? Or did you want your significant other to pick it for you?

I think it would be so romantic to be completely surprised and have my man pick the ring that he thinks looks like me. But I keep hearing from a lot of people that I should give him some direction, and maybe pick out 5 or so for him to choose from. I just think that takes away from the romantic aspect.

So, I'm wondering, how did things go for you?

And guys, what did you do? Did you want help? Did you want to go solo on this mission? Fill me in.

I picked out my own ring. We both agreed it was better because I'd have to wear it and love it for life. :-) giving 3-5 options isn't a bad idea. I know a few women that HATE their rings because they didn't see it until proposal.
Yeah... that's what I'm afraid of... which makes me feel kind of like a horrible person.
my thoughts too... I think I'd give guidance... or you could tell them the appropriate friend (er the one you showed a bunch to) to get advice from. But picking the ONE out takes away the surprise and the romance.
You know what I think would be sweet? And this is probably just me, because I'm a big, fat dork but...

I would love it that my bf would give me a fake ring..but something so obviously fake that he means to let me pick out my own ring. Like a ring Pop ring. Or something made of twine or something.

And have a little tag on it that says: 'I O U... All my love''

okay that is really dorky. But still.

I think it's a bit unfair to think that a man will be able to know exactly what kind of ring his gf has envisioned, and expect her to love it, you know? Unless he's super observant and possibly telepathic.
Yes I totally agree with you on both statements, that is cute, and that is true. :)
I had a tin ring from a gum-ball machine. I still have it on my key chain!
Such a cute idea!!! and not at all dorky!!
We looked at rings online several months before he proposed, so he knew what I liked. Other than that, he picked it out on his own. I picked out my own wedding band though. :)
That's cute. :)
Let's see, first off my engagement was a total surprise (reason I cried like a lil bitch) I had no idea.
He picked out the ring and THANKFULLY it was a beaut. I don't think he know what type of ring I wanted all he knew was that I am simple. Hence the solitaire. If it was ugly though, (I am going to sound very shallow) I would have taken it back to get one that I liked. I think if you are romantic picking out the ring takes some of the 'magic' out of the proposal. Why not just pick one out and skip the proposal if you are just going to go get a ring yourself? Just my opinion.
Yeah... it definitely isn't as cute to be like, "yeah... we went to the store together and I picked one out."
I picked out two and he chose between them and gave it to me four months later! (So there was still a little surprise.) I never felt like we missed anything romantic in the process. :) Really, it's a win-win situation either way!
