The Bloggers With The Most To Say

A question for the married or engaged ladies, and maybe the guys too.

Did you help pick your ring? Or did you want your significant other to pick it for you?

I think it would be so romantic to be completely surprised and have my man pick the ring that he thinks looks like me. But I keep hearing from a lot of people that I should give him some direction, and maybe pick out 5 or so for him to choose from. I just think that takes away from the romantic aspect.

So, I'm wondering, how did things go for you?

And guys, what did you do? Did you want help? Did you want to go solo on this mission? Fill me in.

That's true! :)
My fiancee brought home a catalog from a local jeweler, and we looked through it together. I showed him which styles I liked, and what i didn't like.

However he didn't propose till about 4 months later, so I totally forgot about the catalog, and I was more than surprised. The ring he picked out didn't look like any of the ones I had a picked in the catalog. IT WAS BETTER! I'm so in love with it!
aww! that's so cute! I'd be in heaven if my boyfriend did that. :) He likes to keep things top secret though.
I guess he knows me better than I know myself. hehe

When he proposed this past Valentine's day, he gave me a bag with a new dog collar inside. At first I was like: "Wait a minute the dog got a V-day gift and not me?" but then I saw the ring attached to it.

My first words before saying yes: "Are you serious?"

It was as romantic as me and fiancee could be, which isn't very much. Are you gaging yet? Hehe
haha! that's so cute! :) I love hearing engagement stories! Someone once told me he was going to propose to his girlfriend by putting the ring in his mouth and asking if he had anything in his teeth. I melted... while everyone else thought it was disgusting. :)
That is the way to do it! LOL.
We both sat down and I designed what I liked.

That's what I got.

It was really simple, though. Just a single, princess cut diamond on a white gold band. I think if it were a little more complicated, he would have done what he could have. We were really young and broke when we got engaged.

I know that some places can hold "wish lists" for you. You can go in and pick out a few and then your significant other can go in and look at the ones you like and decide from there. It allows for more surprise.
That's neat! I didn't know about the 'wishlists' thanks for the heads up :)
I picked mine out, but he got a bigger carat weight than what I originally said. :) I think there can be a way that you can tell him what you like, so he has an idea.
Yeah, I definitely drop hints a lot :)
My husband picked out my engagement ring (and must have been paying attention, because he bought the exact ring I wanted!), and then we selected the wedding bands together.

It varies from couple to couple though, some women are super-picky and insist on picking out the ring, and some are more traditional.
With that being said, though, if a man decides to pick a ring out on his own, it would be smart to at least bring A woman along with him. Men don't know anything about clarity, color, etc. of diamonds, and therefore are easy targets in jewelry stores. (Kind of how when a woman walks into a car dealership the salesmen start salivating.)
