20 Something Bloggers

The Bloggers With The Most To Say

So, technically we've already had a thread on this, but given the HUGE numbers of new 20SB members these days I figured it might be a good idea to start another one about the 20SB Feeds.

Some of you already know that a feed, such as the ones you see in your Google Readers, is just an easy way to have items from the internet come to you. In our case, this means that any time a blog you like is updated, it shows up in your Reader. The most popular Reader at the moment is the one provided by Google, although there definitely are some others.

A few months back, several really fantastic bloggers stepped up to the plate to make it easier for all of us to access blogs from our fellow 20SBers. The link to these feeds can be found at the top of the page in the "Links" category or using this link: http://20somethings.ning.com/page/feeds-1

I really just wanted to bring this to your attention again for a couple of reasons:

1) Feedback. We would love to hear from you about these feeds. Should new categories be made in place of the ones that haven't received any entries? Any suggestions? Just respond here.

2) Participation. We can't add blog addresses to feeds unless you email us and submit your URL.

3) Assistance. If any of you have a difficult time understanding what a feed reader is, please ask so that it can be explained in further detail. It took me FOREVER to get a proper grasp on it.

Thanks for posting this I lost it.
The personal category does seem vast, the problem is most people who don't have a niche specific blog, even if they post very little personal stuff list their blog as personal - making that category massive, and hard tog et a handle o when you are trying to find the blogs you want to read.

Any suggestions to rectify that?

There probably isn't much to do unless people can suggest ways to break down personal blogs into more succinct categories. For instance I'm listed under personal but I write very little real personal stuff mostly social political and pop- culture commentary there is no category for that but people searching around for personal blogs which write about people lives and loves and nights on the town I'm sure get irritated to come upon blogs which aren't personal by their definition. Subcategorizing feeds would be hell and probably not worth it.

There's a feed for pop culture. ;)

Another issue I see is that if a blog is listed under multiple categories, and I am subscribed to both feeds, the new posts show up in each category.. which isn't a big deal but it's a little bit of a hassle. Also when I am personally subscribed to a blog but they are also on the feed.. but I don't know, I feel bad even saying this because I have no solution. :( And it's not bad enough to really bother me...

Yeah, I just subscribed to a couple different feeds/categories and noticed the repetitions of some people's posts. But if you're using Google Reader and you "mark as read" a post in one feed, I'm pretty sure it recognizes that in the other feed(s) so you can see that you've already read it.

I think.

I could be imagining it. :-P

Aw hm. I'll have to look into that, cause it'd be handy. Right now I just use an add-on to Firefox to go through my feeds and I've liked it so far except for that one thing.. which isn't a huge deal, when I see something on more than once, I just mark it read manually on the additional feeds..

Yeah, the difficulty with a situation like that is two-fold.

If you've already subscribed to a blog through their feed, that's one link.

If you subscribe to a blog by chugging their URL into your reader, that's another link.

And the two don't recognize the other. I've noticed that in my reader as well, but thus far I've just either unsubscribed to one of the feeds or ignored it.

I do agree, though, that it can be kind of tedious seeing doubles. But that, unfortunately, is not something that we can easily fix.

I love this idea but I'm having trouble deciding exactly which feed to add my own to. Male blogs (because well...yeah), personal blogs, pop culture, relationships, eh I'm sure I'll figure something out. Sometimes it does not pay to be a non-conformist.
