True or false: All is fair in love and war?
What are your thoughts?

For some reason I spend tons of time thinking about each side of the argument. I'm not sure why it intrigues me so much, but I am interested on your p.o.v.

I would agree that all is fair in love and war, only because I can't think of a watertight definition of fair, or a reason that someone MUST be fair (whatever it might mean).

However, back in the day, I wonder if you would have used chivalry as a simulacrum of fairness, and whether we now use international laws on human rights for the same purpose.
Interesting. As I can see both sides, I always tend to decide upon false, and the determining factor is always because of one argument....

First, the saying is all is fair in love AND war. So I always start with love, because I understand more about love than war. Then I think, if my boyfriend/finace/husband were to cheat on me, would it be fair of me to cheat on him too? And would that make everything okay and better? My personal answer is no.

But you're right, nobody is bound to being fair.
False.

In war, there exist rules of engagement and ethical conduct. Not that anybody follows them, but they're there.

In love, there are rules if lovers decide there ought to be, rules about "fighting fair" should exist in every relationship. But they don't.

So, maybe all is fair in love and war. It shouldn't be, though.
You are so right. Everything is fair, but it shouldn't be. That's really true.
This is why I love you Mr. Apron!
I do not believe all is fair in Anything, Love & War included.

I think about love... is it fair to go after the man you love even if it hurts someone else?
yes and no. Does that mean you should sit back and not fight for what you want? No. But that doesn't mean you should fight dirty. So... telling him your feelings and letting him decide is fair. Being manipulative and trying to get caught in a dirty act so they split... that's not.

When I think about alls fair in war... I dont think that either. Should men round up women and children for rape and murder? It's all about war and weakening the other side right? Afterall, it has to screw with their heads to know what happens to their women if they leave to fight. No. That's not fair and it should not be done under any circumstances.

It's like a phrase that people use to allow themselves to do something they know they shouldn't. Just because people don't fight fair does not mean that all Is fair. All that means is more people will not fight fair because it is easier to excuse their behavior.
Okay, so since we've [mostly} declared that all is not "fair" in love and war, so is there any fairness in love and war? Is most fair in love and war?
moving this to the everything else forum.
People SHOULD play fair in love and war, but nobody ever does. But ... maybe that's what makes it fair, since everybody has an equal chance to do what they wish in order to achieve their goals. Hmmm .... interesting ..... :).
I could never wrap my mind around that statement, so I wouldn't be able to give you a straight answer.

But I'm enjoying reading everyone else's answers =)
