The Bloggers With The Most To Say

I don't know if you all have heard of the most recent doocing case, of Natalie Baker, who was fired after she wrote about the Belgian defense minister's antics in the NYC bar she worked at. Essentially, it appears that she commented on his drunken behaviour, as well as the fact that another staffer told her they had chosen to go on the taxpayer funded trip despite the fact that the UN meeting they were scheduled to attend was moved to Geneva because they had never been to New York.

You can read about the story here.

The Belgian defense minister has since gone on record saying that blogging has become dangerous in that it allows for mudslinging and personal attacks without the need for accountability (like, presumably, journalists would have).

I'm interested in what you guys think about this case and the defense ministers comments! Should she have been fired? Is there merit in what the defense minister has said?
Also, (shameless plug alert) I have written a more details post about the topic here, so feel free to hop on over and say anything there, including about your own experiences in having your blog inadvertently discovered.

Cheers!!

I worry a bit about this, too, as an-almost psychologist (and someone who already sees clients). I have my FB so that no one but my friends can see anything, but still.
Of course, I have those nice cut and dry ethical codes meaning I can pretty much talk about nothing with anyone-- so at least that makes it easy!
weren't there also flight attendents on some airline (virgin?) who were fired because of something on facebook or something like that? I can't remember the whole story...
Yeah, her name was Ellen Simonetti (sp?), I believe. I have a link to her wikipedia page on my post on this topic. She was fired for posting pictures of her in her Delta flight attendant uniform on her blog, though she never formally said who she worked for. Of course, she managed to get a book deal out of it!
If she signed some kind of non-disclosure about publishing stuff about customers, yeah, she should be fired.

I think he went out of his way to be an ass, though. Had he done some respectable, he'd be glad to have it spread around. I wonder how he would've handled it had a real journalist been present and reported this.
