The Bloggers With The Most To Say

I am a hoarder - bigtime. I don't know how I accumulate so much crap, but I love and "need" it all - I just moved and it was harder this time than ever. I can't bear to part with any of it, but it has to stop. It's gone way too far. And I'm moving into a new - small - apartment with very, very little storage room.

Where m I gonna put it all? How dya sort what's useful, from what's sentimental, from what "may come in handy", from what I "may wear again some day", from what's clearly rubbish... how dya get rid of junk you love?

I still have - and wear - dresses I got when I was 15/16, for Christ's sake.

Any other hoarding types out there?

Just the opposite. The less I have the better. I get anxious when I have too much of anything.
It's just so hard to throw stuff away.. I'm convinced i'll need it someday - which is mad, I know! Because, if it turned out I DID need something, I'd never find it in all the crap..!
We moved around the world a lot. I think that is where that stems from.
If I haven't used something for a couple of months (that isn't a purely seasonal item) and it can be sold without too much effort, then that's a pretty easy decision and it usually goes. Obviously there are some exceptions to this rule.

As for what 'may come in handy', I guess that depends on the kind of person you are. If you are pretty skilful at re-purposing old stuff to give it new life / are handy when it comes to DIY etc. then I can see plenty of things being of potential use. If you are the kind of person who likes the idea of using stuff but never really gets around to it, then it may be a better idea to give it to someone who will use it or throw it out for recycling.

I'm with cooper in that I try not to accumulate too much stuff. That can be surprisingly hard and I often have to force myself to do a search around for things to get rid of.
See I DO sometimes use the junk, I'm good with customising/arty stuff when I've time for it... but some things I don't know if I'll ever get around to using... Maybe I should apply my harsh-editor skillz! If it's not needed, it should go.

Or, go to my little sister - where there's always the option of taking it back...!
No way - I throw everything away (or sell it)! I only keep things I have an emotional attachment to, which isn't much to be honest. I'm such a minimalist and I can't stand clutter! Although sometimes I've gone too far and got rid of things which I later needed!
Oh gosh. I'm a total packrat. I'm currently decluttering. If it doesn't fit and has fit for a few months, it goes. If I can't remember the last time I've read it, it goes. If I managed to live without for months because it was packed away, it goes.

Major purging lately in my house!
That's what I've been trying to do today... So far gotten rid of 2 pairs of shoes and some belts I've never *really* liked... clothes is tougher... most stuff still fits... and whenever I come across something I haven't worn in months/years, I'm delighted! And usually put it straight on!
I've always thought of myself as the messiest organized person in the world LOL My work room is always a work in progress.
I think I have too much stuff that I've kept around for sentimental reasons - mainly stuff given to me by family over the years.
I've gathered a lot over the last couple of years but in preparation for travelling I'm trying to sell lots of it. If I can survive for a year out of a rucksack its obvious that I don't really need all the other stuff.
I'm an ex horder, I got it from my mom. Her house was insane plus she had 2 garage sized storage units. Growing up with that, I started hoarding too when I moved into my own place. Then mom's house burned down. Mom wasn't hurt thankfully. It was because of all the stuff inside that the fire was so bad. It was a wake up call. Now every few months I go through my house and throw things away or donate things to Goodwill, I've really cut down.
