The Bloggers With The Most To Say

So I'm missing my piano from back home, but can't really afford to buy a keyboard right now. Not one to go without annoying my roommates with musical instruments, I was thinking of getting a ukulele because a) they're cheap used and b) I've heard they're easier on the fingers than guitar. (I'm a piano player/giant wuss about calluses).

So... my question: Any ukulele players have advice? Is it relatively easy to learn if you have a strong musical background? Any brands that are good or should be avoided? I really don't need anything fabulous, just something to write music on while I save up for some keys.

You should totally get in touch with this amazing lady.
Awesome referral! It's so funny, half the songs she covers I used to play on piano...
I second miss Hannah, she's my best friend and completely amazing.
Ukulele is super easy to play, especially if you have a musical background. Chords are really easy to learn and are extremely similar to guitar tabs.

There are different types of ukulele though, so I would say find the one that really fits you. Mine is small and fits in my arms easily, so it's really comfortable to play. I was also playing my grandpa's for a while, his was bigger and it was harder for me. There are a lot of really good brands, mine is actually from Costco and is a Kohala brand, it was cheap but it's really good and it stays in tune.

I didn't have a musical background, but I picked up on ukulele really quickly. Have fun!
Thanks for the advice! I'll check out the Kohala brand!
My boyfriend got an ukulele and I've learned to play two songs on it...but not too smoothly yet--it's my first string instrument (the only instrument I really play is the flute). So I'd say it's easy to learn (I need to practice more), and the strings are nice and haven't hurt/callused my fingers. It's a great instrument!
