The Bloggers With The Most To Say

I have been having trouble sleeping the past (not so) few weeks.
It just gets to a certain time at night where I lose my sleep and can't go back to sleep until the early hours of the morning.
I wake up tired and don't look forward to going to work coz I'll be tired the whole day

Anyone know how I can beat this?
(I have already tried counting sheep(lol!), I just need new ideas .)

I usually work out a couple of hours before bed...It helps me relax.
I'm too lazy to read the replies to this thread, so if anybody else has already suggested masturbation, I apologize.
If you want to go the natural way, chamomile tea is popular, as others have stated. But it actually makes me kind of restless. Valerian root is a natural muscle relaxer. Also, catnip is used to reduce stress in humans (you'll actually find it as one of the ingredients in most "Sleep" teas. Also, don't watch TV or stare at a computer monitor for at least an hour before bed. Read instead. The lights and images on the screen stimulate your brain in a way that it's hard to turn off when trying to go to sleep.

On nights when I really want to sleep deeply, I take one Benadryl, or the generic version which is diphenhydramine (the active ingredient in most OTC sleep aids).

Also, plenty of exercise and a healthy diet will improve your sleep habits dramatically.
I go through cycles of bad sleep periods and when its bad it just makes everything horrible, I have found a couple of things which now make my life easier and me less of a zombie when it happens.

1
Dont get more annoyed about the fact you are not getting to sleep, sounds easy but the difference is huge in actually getting some decent sleep.

2
Exercise, I find swimming the best but if you dont live by a pool whatever you can do during the day to help tire you physically and not just mentally is a huge help when your head hits the pillow

If all else fails try valerian tea, its all natural but really does work (for me at least) but if you have it a few nights in a row it loses its effect.
exercising, and reading have always made me go to sleep, but it's probably because I need glasses when I read, and if I don't do it, I'll fall asleep, 1 hour or so into the book. I sort of don't exercise....but when I do get moving around a lot, I'll tend to have a better sleep pattern
If you're going for an Herbal Remedy, then some kind of tea will definitely do the trick.

If it gets to be too bothersome, or if the tea doesn't work - I'd say to see your doctor and they can prescribe a sleep aid. You'll hear the fuss about how it can become habit forming, which is can be depending on your body chemistry, addiction suseptibility , etc. But I took an Rx Sleep Aid for a little over 6 months, and I was just fine.

Good luck. I know insomnia can be a real killer!
Most have been very good suggestions. My former boss (MD/PhD) recommended a hot bath, a glass of wine or chamomile tea, and melatonin. Melatonin can be found at most pharmacies in the herbal crap sections. Valerian Root is also helpful.

Yoga before bath is a plus.

1. Keep a very regular schedule
2. Do not go to bed unless you are tired. Read elsewhere, then move to your bed.
3. Exercise regularly
4. Limit your caffeine intake throughout the day. No caffeine after 2pm.
5. Avoid tv/computer. :(
6. They do say that sex is something like 10x more effective than valium for getting people to sleep.

My question for you: What do you think is causing your insomnia? Are you stressed about something? Are you tired throughout the day, or are you awake as if you had slept? Are you anxious? If you are you could talk to your doctor about medication to remedy the underlying causes of the insomnia.
1. I'd say my schedule is pretty regular
2. If i had to go to bed when I'm tired then I guess I'd have to do sometime during the day WHEN I'M SUPPOSED TO BE WORKING!
3.I walk in the morning so I guess that's exercise
4. Check
5.I don't think that is even possible
6. o.k.

Anyway, I'm not sure what is causing the insomnia. I have been like that for a while now. If I said I was stressed then that would have to be everyday( with not sleeping and all). I was trying to go for medication as my last option but you're right, maybe I'll see a doctor (assuming the chamomile tea doesn't work lol!)
As one insomniac to another I'd try the following:

Glass of red wine before bed (no more otherwise the alcohol will disrupt your sleep patterns).
Lavender oil
Dried hops in a posset under your pillow - this really works.
If you still can't sleep then don't just lie there getting frustrated. Get up and read or do something else. I find marking a set of exercise books at 3am enough to send me to sleep quickly.

Also make sure you're not doing anything else in your sleeping area. If you work on your bed then you'll associate the bed with work. If possible keep your bedroom for sleeping and sex only.

Hope this helps because I know how frustrating it can be.
