I've always loved Dogs. I want nothing more than to have my own puppy to walk around and snuggle with but unfortunately that isn't going to be happening any time soon since my boyfriend isn't a huge fan of Dogs.

He is a cat person. I love all animals, but I would have say I would rather have a Dog than a cat. I never thought of myself as a cat owner/lover but one day my boyfriend came home with this little black ball of fur and he has been the love of my life ever since he crawled into my lap.

He has his own little over protective personality and he is a pretty big cat, not a cat other cats would want to mess with. As much as i  still would love and want a dog, i love my cat. Other cats however, not so much.

So my question to everyone is are you a dog person? A cat person? Both? Or maybe neither? and why?

I consider myself both.  I grew up with a dog and she was the greatest thing ever!  After she died, I didn't want a pet for a long time.  When I moved in with my manlove we got ourselves a couple of cats (he's a cat person) and I love these guys so much!

I think cats are good for me now anyway.  I don't know that I have the time for a dog, and I would hate to have one and not give it the attention it deserves.

Dogs do need a lot of attention, but its always worth it in the end. Thats why i want a dog now, because i finally have the time to take care of one, but i just need to convince my boyfriend that dogs are devil animals

I'm a cat person but my husband is a dog person. We both love animals too, but I grew up with a cat and he grew up with a dog. I'm a little scared of dogs and he's a little scared of cats, but we both want to like what the other prefers as well! I think our 'fears' are improving after spending time with our friends' pets.

We've made a plan to get a puppy and a kitten at the same time so they can grow up together and not hate each other. We're not sure if that'll work in reality, and we can't have pets where we live at the moment, but it seems like a good compromise for the future!

I'm sure it will work if you introduce them when they're babies. For the most part, any cat i have owned has gotten along well with all dogs.  However, there are some cats and dogs that just cant get along

Not having grown up with either, I'm not really sure where I stand. I think cats are more low maintenance, which definitely suits me, because I'm quite lazy! But dogs definitely seem more of a friend - cats have their own agenda in life, which often doesn't involve their owner! My boyfriend is definitely more of a dog person, so I'm sure that we'll end up getting a dog one day (when we live in an actual house rather than a flat!), which I'm fine with. Except that he likes quite big dogs, but I prefer smaller ones - I want a dog to sit on my lap and NOT crush me!

I'm 100% a cat person. I have a firm belief I was a cat myself in a past life due to my antics in my present life. I also grew up with cats. While dogs are great, I still have a fear of them. I got knocked into a pool at 5yrs by a retriever so my fear lies mostly in medium/large dogs. I however am trying to face that fear being I live with an Akita now. Small dogs kind of annoy me, mostly their yap. >_<

Both. I have a dog and a cat and love them both for very different reasons. My dog is hyper and playful, he loves to go for walks with me and run around like crazy. He likes his belly rubbed.

My cat is rather quiet with sudden, short bursts of energy. He doesn't like to be cuddled for more than a minute at a time, and likes to keep to himself. Sometimes, he curls up on my feet and sleeps.

Definitely a cat person...can't stand most dogs
I don't know. I have a dog but I deliberately chose a breed that acts exactly like a cat so... Both?
I love both, but based on my lifestyle and general plans for the future I believe I am more of a cat person. I like that they're generally lazy and don't constantly need attention. I like that they'll still curl up on my bed and be somewhat cuddly too.
Total dog person! Until recently I have never understood why anyone would want a cat when they could have a dog :/

I think I'm a little of both. I grew up having cats around my whole life because my dad's very much a cat person even though he wouldn't ever admit it. My mum had both dogs & cats growing up and I've owned both. Admittedly  I ended up handing the dog over to XH when we divorced because I didn't have the space for a medium-large dog (he was a shepherd mix) and when the BF and I moved in together, I gave my dad my cat. I had actually prepped him to go to my mum in England but she decided at the last minute she didn't want to take him because she "hadn't got over the death of her cat yet." (over a year later.) I still go over to my dads just for the hell of it to see my cat. My dad saved a stray kitten he found, so now he's not completely alone & bored anymore- my cat's always had other animals around to play with. I would LOVE to have a smaller-medium sized dog around- a hound or lab mix would be nice. I get lonely when the BF has to work late and I spend a lot of time at home alone. I always felt safer with a dog around too. And its a good reason to force me to get up and move around & walk/exercise.

The BF on the other hand is entirely a dog person- he hates my cat, my cat hates him and god forbid you might try to put the two of them in a room together. The BF hates all cats... he says they're evil. lol. He claims that when he was 5, a cat stole his pb&j sandwich & everyone got mad at him for it so they're now the spawn of satan. He even acts like a dog sometimes. I don't think he realizes it, he's just been raised around dobermans his whole life & he has a very close bond with his dogs. Maybe eventually we'll get a dog, but I know he has his heart set on getting us a dobey if we get one.
