I have this friend who believes you are an adult once you have gotten married and/or purchased your first home. I don't know about all that. I do know that I have done both and I still feel like a child-woman half the time. What qualifies someone as an adult? Is it a mindset, certain actions, age, or something else? Do you feel like you are an adult now?
I definitely don't feel like an adult... I thought by 25 I'd have a steady job and a fiance and be planning a family... but my life is TOTALLY not that, and i love it.
I thought I was an adult until last year when I faced the $44K of debt I owe. I moved out of my apartment, back in with my parents and now I'm tackling the debt instead of continuing to drown in it. I realized that right there, when I made that decision, I became an adult.
1. I dress cutely
2. I sit on top of my boyfriends shoulders and flash the band
3. I color in coloring books
4. I don't know how to file my own taxes
5. Mac n cheese and PB&J are staples in my diet
6. I don't buy clothing items over $20
7. I'm happy and carefree
I thought I'd feel like an adult when I had my own place and lived with my boyfriend.
I have that now, and I don't.
But I have this kind of longing to feel like an adult... now it's shift to me thinking I'll only feel that way when I'm married and actually own a house... but then that probably won't be the case either.
Maybe when I have a house with a house with a large kitchen.. or maybe when I have kids.
I don't particularly enjoy this point in my life - I'm poor, I live in a place where I know no one, and my fella is younger than me, still studying, and no where close to being able to 'settle down' anytime soon.
Sometimes I find myself wishing the years by, if only to just be out of this stupid rut that I'm in now.
Its absolutely ur mindset...That's why when someone who talks or thinks much higher than his age-group's thoughts, we address him - 'he has matured before his age' ...because we talk about his ideologies, his thoughts, the way he looks at everything, every situation. It has nothing to do with the age.
Once I was trying to scare my 7 years old nephew and kept on saying,'' here the ghost comes, here it is...
He casually and with out a 'f' of fear on his face replied, " Uncle, if Ghost starts with 'G', so does God...huh? so don't be scared, everything is gonna b fine.
I was shut...!
