The Bloggers With The Most To Say

I just recently started getting comments on my blog (yay!!! go check it out) and so I set the comments so that they have to be moderated and accepted by me before they actually post.  I don't think my blog does the word verification thing (annoying) but if someone wants to say something rude I'd rather just keep it off my site (my blog my rules right?).  But let me ask you, does this deter you from leaving comments when you see that? Or do you not really care?

Good point! That did not occur to me... and that's a nice thought :-)
I think that in the end, the approval setting has more benefits than drawbacks.
I actually like when my comments have to be approved, because I *know* the blogger is reading what I have to say. ^_^ It's kinda nice!
that is a great way to look at it
It doesn't bother me, except I always wonder if I'm off relevant to other comments.

The word acknowledgement thing gets me because my computer can be deathly slow. I understand both of those things, if necessary. However, I think sometimes blogspot bloggers throw them on just because they can. I plan to leave mine anon capable, and easy to comment. Why would I want to deter that in any way? :)

The approval because you know they're reading thing is new to me. I'll have to think about it...
Well, this thread has convinced me I need to go remove the word verification thing. So thanks for that :)
I'd like to have the job of a person who comes up with the word verifications. I was recently commenting on a blog and I had to type the word "shouslo." Uhhhhh, what?

What pisses me off is when I can't fucking read the weird-ass word verification, then I have to type it in wrong so they give me a new one. It's a tough world out there.
It doesn't bother me either, sometimes I wish I would have proof-read it a bit slower, but that's about it. I started doing that one mine b/c I was getting spammed, etc.
I don't mind moderation. I don't like CAPTCHA, but I'll still deal with it.

As far as my own blog, I don't moderate comments until the blog is 2 weeks old, then I moderate them. I get an email with every comment I get, so I always read my few comments. It's always disappointing when one is a bot, but I'm usually quick to delete them.
I don't think people mind that their own comments are moderated. I think the issue you'll have is that it can limit conversation in your comments.

Readers like to read and respond to other comments too. If they have to wait for you to approve comments before they can read and respond to them, it could hurt the conversation.

If you do moderate comments, just make sure that when readers submit their comment, you let them know that it's awaiting moderation so that they don't think it went to spam or anything.
Nope, it doesn't. I understand why people would want to moderate comments...

BUT I HATE WORD VERIFICATION! And a lot of people on Blogger must not know they can uncheck that option...because SOOOO many of them have it. Or maybe they do it on purpose >:/
Not at all. I think most people assume that the person want some degree of privacy/ability to remove really nasty comments.
