The Bloggers With The Most To Say

alright, so just in case you haven't heard, prince william and kate middleton are getting married. personally, (and i am canadian, which makes me a citizen of a british dominion), i could. not. care. less. i have noticed, however, that the american media seems to care a lot, and i dont understand why. didn't the americans do a whole lot of battling to get away from the royal family??? why this big interest in it now? and why do people find this wedding so inspiring and fascinating? i can barely bring myself to care about the weddings of people i know personally, let alone total strangers who are living the high life on my tax dollars. can someone please explain?

Nope, I could care less as well. To me, I just don't understand the big deal around it. I know it's history or tradition or whatever, but I really don't understand why we still have queens and princes and princesses etc...They don't serve a purpose. Or do they, and I'm missing out?
Here in Canada there is a lot of interest just because our government is still connected to the Queen. Everything is referred to as "Her Majesty the Queen" in most government documents, and our Governor General is the Queen's rep.  Their marriage is the next Royal couple... The next King and Queen... so it's important here because of that.
yes I understand the significance of it, I'm just confused why the American media is paying so much attention to it......I thought they were all about being independent of the British royal family
The American media cares so much because the average American is a stark raving idiot whose favorite form of escapism is voyeurism into the lives of the rich and famous, adopting their petty and meaningless squabbles and problems as their own to give their lives some perceived depth of meaning and purpose.  At the least we can take some solace in the fact that these people are actual royalty instead of the disgusting reality TV aristocracy we've created.
Have I told you that you're awesome?
No no. No no.

It's not important anywhere in the entire world. Nowhere. People just think it is, because they are morons.
I'm in the UK and I have absolutely no interest - and I have yet to meet anyone (bar my grandmother) who a) cares about the royal wedding, or b) actually remembers when it is - we just know we're getting an extra bank holiday sometime next month... :)
Extra holidays sound nice. :) That would make me interested.
Real Americans don't care about it.
I think here in the States we're truly intrigued by the notion of royalty. Whereas in Canada the Queen's still on all of your money, we just have dead presidents on ours. British Royality is something "exotic", yet accessible because of the common language. Not sure if that makes any sense, but basically we're interested because it has absolutely no effect on our livesand we can never be bothered to care about things that might actually matter. Maybe it's just a Disney princess overload?

well, i wish I had a royal wedding...

omg!!

Fuck no. Let me give you an example. On the front page of the newspaper: NUCLEAR DISASTER IN JAPAN...next to, KATE CHOOSES WEDDING CAKE...
It's a fruit cake, btw.
