The Bloggers With The Most To Say

Just curious, who do you know who has autism?

I have Asperger's Syndrome myself, do a lot of stuff online with autism, and recently started being the assistant teacher in the special needs class in church.

I have had two students with different degrees of autism.
I taught a student 2 years ago who has autism. He was in first grade then, and oh my, I have such a soft spot in my heart for him.

The year before he came to my school (and therefore, my class) he was set apart from the rest of the class, given coloring books to do and the teacher basically said "he couldn't learn".

Ugh, he was so smart and talented. And the biggest sweetheart. :)

Sorry, that was probably more than you needed to know.
My cousin has Autism, but he is very high functioning young man. He is so smart, every time I'm around him I feel like I learn something new. He is a real sweetheart as well.

I'm studying Elementary Education right now and I'm sure I will come across a few students with autism in the future, I hope I can do everything in my power to help them.
my cousin has autism, he's pretty high functioning, and pretty hysterical (i have a couple conversations we have had posted on my blog . I also volunteer with the local Special Olympics, and many of the kids on our team are autistic. Ultimately, once i finish my master's degree, i'd like to teach autistic children.
I used to teach developmentally disabled adults, and several clients had autism. My favorite client ever was a man with severe autism---he needed a special routine, loved the encyclopedia and wrote the most brilliant poetry ever. We would take walks, and he would point out the trees and tell me all their characteristics. Truly one of the most special people I've ever known.
Who do I know with autism? Well, me. I'm certain I have Asperger's Syndrome but I've never been formerly diagnosed. My family had never even heard of Aspergers until I was 19, and at that age there really isn't a point to getting a diagnosis. Or at least that's what I read.

Aside from me, the only other person I know who's on the autism spectrum is a former classmate of mine. She now writes and illustrates a web comic called Machine Flower.
