The Bloggers With The Most To Say

I have it in my head that my birthday should be wonderful. Somehow it never lives up to my expectations. This year, I haven't even really mentioned it to anyone other than my fiance, in the hope that if I don't have any expectations, I can't be let down.

I think what I would really like is a skating/bowling party at a place outside Bardstown, and I would like all of the people I want to come to actually be there.

Anyone else always disappointed by birthdays? What do you do to make your own birthday feel special?

Ya. Some birthdays are silly. Mine was this month and my roommate and boyfriend made me feel special, but it was pretty low-key. Last year, I cried the day after my birthday as I was sitting in traffic because I realized that I was now an adult and that I wouldn't always be with my closest college friends for the big day anymore. With this in mind, I now make it a point to treat myself on my birthday. I give myself a pedicure or buy myself something special (this year was a Nine West purse). Of course I want my friends and family to make me feel loved, but sometimes it's good to do all you can to make yourself feel loved too, you know?
My birthday is in the summertime (July 22nd) so, besides work, where my co-workers usually go retarded for peoples birthdays (PRANKS AND JOKES -- NOT COOL!) - I'm left to natural vices. I am usually either in Central Park, the Village, or in the Hamptons on the beach(if my day happens to fall on a weekend). That's how my past 10 birthdays have turned out lol. I enjoy it, I guess. I hate being the center of attention so I'd rather family or one or two close friends be around me for the day. If not, I'm fine occupying myself in the sun or out shopping lol.

AS LONG AS A FUDGIE THE WHALE CAKE IS INVOLVED, EVERYONE KEEPS THEIR SOULS. LMAO. Okay, so I'm joking about the souls part but! Fudgie always makes my day 894375984376453 times better, thanks to my mother for ALWAYS remembering Fudgie.

& Supposedly, my brother is taking me to Vegas this July for my 21st. We shall see how THAT goes haha.
I've always hated my birthday, so they've all been disappointing because people always want to celebrate them.

I just hate being the center of attention, and would rather be left alone.

I'm glad my niece was born the day after my birthday. I'm hoping she can take some of the heat off.
I was pretty disappointed this year. I'm living abroad, and the family I live with forgot it was my birthday (they still haven't remembered...). With the exception of my family, plus one or two, all my friends back home forgot as well (they still haven't remembered either. . . )

So I guess I feel your pain there.

But it wasn't a total downer. A couple of my students remembered and bought me a cake and a gift. That was cute, and really unexpected. Lesson I learned? Focus on the good things... no matter how high my expectations were.
Kids can surprise you sometimes. I don't even tell my students about my birthday because I just don't want to deal with the hoopla.
yeah, it certainly wasn't in my plan. But they cornered me and demanded to know when... then actually remembered! If I had it my way, I'd probably would have avoided the classroom hoopla myself.
Wow, that's rather impressive. When I was teaching high schoolers and just starting out, I used to tell them that it was impolite to ask a women her age. Then I told them I was 47. I got a few to actually believe that was my real age...yeah...they weren't that bright.
