The Bloggers With The Most To Say

Hi fellow writing friends,

I just thought I'd give you a heads up on a project that has been months, tears and sleepless nights in the making. I've been working on a new concept, where a blog breaks through the surface of personal reflection and into new media. We all know newspapers are dying (and, most of the time, crap) so it's about time something filled their place...

Have a look and let me know what you think!

I'm thinking you probably already know the story about The Printed Blog - their rise and fall? If not, you may want to read over what they had to say about taking on the challenge of turning online blogs into print media. It didn't work out so well. Now their media of choice was newspaper, but I have to believe that most of the same challenges would present themselves if you are thinking of taking online blogs and turning them into magazines.

Thanks but it's staying online... for now.
It's a great idea I think, because it's focused on Sydney, with content not pulled from every other 100th blog on the internet. Good luck with it I'll put it on my reader. I lived in Sydney as a child then moved to Hobart. I am always up for news on Sydney.

Good luck with it.
I think what you've done is interesting. You've provided a one stop for all sorts of topics much like a magazine would. You pay attention to what is relevant in all these areas and you've allowed yourself flexibility as a chic news source. Design wise, it's also very nice, the tab interface keeps it very clean.

But pardon my bluntness (Because I don't mean this to come across as mean), but haven't you only made 7 different blogs and posted them onto a website? All your entries fall under the idea of a "new post every day that is dedicated to a different aspect of our city life," so how is this different than how a regular blog operates? Blogs have generalized topics, and discuss everything that falls into that field. For example, a blog on "Underwater Basket Weaving" wouldn't just have posts about weaving, but would have posts about the best materials, legends in the field, events, techniques, news events that impact said weaving, etc. Simply put, I think you're intentions are clear (To take blogs out of merely one rigid topical area) but I think you're missing the fact that blogs don't behave that way and there is nuance to their content. They tell more stories than you give them credit for.

That being said, I hope my comments don't discourage you. I think the content is focused, well-written, and has a great local angle for those in Sydney, but I don't think you've done anything NEW here with regards to convergence media. The biggest mistake in any venture is making people a promise and not coming through, and saying this is different than a regular old blog isn't totally true. My suggestion would be that if you're at interested in changing the way people look at print and blogs, you need to develop a new, attractive way, for people to receive information. In essence, you need to think outside the blogosphere.

Hope my thoughts have been helpful.
