The Bloggers With The Most To Say

I've recently noticed that friends I know IRL often aren't anything like who they portray themselves to be on their blogs. I've just blogged about it: http://crazybritheaven.blogspot.com

I was just wondering if people consider what they read to be true characters or whether there is such thing as a 'blog mask'?

Interesting. I can only speak for myself, but I write the way that I am. That being said, since I am writing about the things that I most enjoy and am most passionate about, it may come across as an ideal version of me.
I agree. I write about my daily life or my interests. But it probably comes across way too unfiltered in my blog, than in real life. Which can kind of throw you off about who someone really is.
just commented on your blog post with my thoughts.

i'm guessing i'm the same as I am offline. a lot of comments I get are from IRL people. they've never called me out on any differences between online and offline.

i'd have to say the same about my IRL blogger friends. i have not noticed any discrepancies.
lol you know i remember discussing this with someone a while back. can't remember whom or why

but since a good potion of my readership are friends from real life and it's on my facebook account, i feel it holds me accountable. i can't just make shit up even if i wanted to.
this also makes me feel a little stilted in writing as I don't want to air laundry or start drama.
For some of those reasons I considered starting a new totally anonymous blog just to write things I don't want anyone to read! I guess that's part of the joy of writing offline though...
Good question! Well for myself, how I am in my blog is who I am in real life. Granted, most people who know my IRL see a watered down version of me because they see me at work. And I don't blog about work, as much as I would like to! But it isn't just on blogs, I even see people on FaceBook who are NOTHING like that IRL and it drives me nuts. I've stopped following blogs because I feel like if you are going to put yourself out there and supposedly write about what's really happening in your life, be real. If not, make it blatantly obvious that you are just being creative. I don't like being duped. :)
That's interesting... so far the bloggers I know IRL come across EXACLTY as themselves on their blogs... and actually, I think their blogs are funnier since I can picture them saying what they're writing... I think for myself, I try to keep my blog pretty positive, so I don't write about as much negative stuff as I might be thinking... And I know my mom and some relatives read, so I'm not as open as I would be otherwise. I've talked about this with some IRL friends because sometimes people's lives seem too good to be true, so I think people just don't like to air the bad news.
I try to be myself on my blog... which is probably why its so boring. :) I kid, I kid. Its not THAT bad. But, I can imagine that some of the people whos blog I read are not nearly as cool and funny as they make themselves sound on their blogs.
Most of my blog is a transcription of my internal monologue... so people that know me in a professional capacity or who don't know me that well might be surprised by it, as I speak somewhat more articulately than I think (or type, for that matter), but I ultimately feel like you shouldn't be trying to portray yourself in any particular way in a blog...??

side note - the complexities of blogging that sometimes appear on here astound me, so I probably shouldn't be making comments about it since I don't seem to "get" a lot of it!
I agree about the social networking side of things too. So many good reasons why I came off facebook a couple of years ago. Does that mean that if your blog were totally anonymous, nobody you knew IRL knew you had it, would you still write in the same way/about the same things?

I think I probably would at the moment as I use my blog to recount amusing/frustrating things that happen to me and also to get my thoughts out before the drive me insane :)
My blog is my personality in its pure and most concentrated form so therefore it's more me than my actual self. I don't have to worry about any barriers or who I will offend. Most people I know will never see the person I portray on my blog because they don't know me enough.
I agree with this totally. Unless a blogger is using some sort of blogging persona and purposely trying to be someone they know they're not, then I feel that your blog can be a more accurate representation of who you are.
