The Bloggers With The Most To Say

I've recently noticed that friends I know IRL often aren't anything like who they portray themselves to be on their blogs. I've just blogged about it: http://crazybritheaven.blogspot.com

I was just wondering if people consider what they read to be true characters or whether there is such thing as a 'blog mask'?

I've been thinking a lot about this as well, actually...

Just recently I joined up NetworkedBlogs on Facebook and I have found A LOT of my IRL friends texting me or just plain telling me, "Hey! I read your blog today and it's great!" At first I'm flattered and thankful (woot for google analytics stats!), then I start panicking. "What the blazes did I write in that thing today?!"

I really don't think it is because I have a blog mask, because I am very honest in both world. However, I do not tell my real life friends a lot of the things I write about. I think it is because the blogging community (or at least the people I have gotten to know well within it) are typically so unbelievable accepting and non-judgmental that I can really be myself and write about things like crazy sex stories, crapping my pants, or dildos and they just laugh with me. IRL, though? Totally different story.

Wow, that was kind of scatterbrained. Does that even answer your question?
My blog is an extremely accurate portrayal of who I am, minus a lot of personal details. My real life friends who read it say I write my posts exactly the way I talk, which I hope is a good thing.
I'm finding it interesting that so many people almost think that their real life is masked rather than the other way around! So it's in our blogs that we're truly feeling unjudged? Blah, what does that say about society!

I agree with Jeney that the blogosphere is so much more accepting and unjudgmental than real life. It's good that a lot of people think they can be honest in both 'worlds'.
About the only thing that's different for me on my blog is that I try very hard not to swear on my blog - I hate that I swear so much and it's SO HARD to control in real life but I figure I can at least control it online.

Otherwise, I think I'm pretty much the same in real life as I am on my blog.
I write pretty straight-forward "me." The only thing that is different, is probably the lack of timidity that comes with blogging. I am a little bit on the shy side and some people that are acquaintances in real life, would think that I act differently. Although, people who REALLY know me will know I'm not.
