The Bloggers With The Most To Say

I am having a sort of mini crisis with blogging. I take it somewhat seriously, seeing as how I am an aspiring writer and I like to think of my blog as my "home" online, but I am feeling lost lately.

I recently read some general blogging advice lately that it's a good idea to have your blog be somewhat "about something" in particular, not just scattered topics of everything. However that is what mine seems to be. In a way I like that because that way I can write about whatever I want but it is proves as a challenege because since my blog is so general, I am often indecisive on what to write about. I feel like maybe if I had some focus that it might be easier.

I also feel like readers might be turned off because they don't know what to expect out of my posts. Maybe I am just overthinking it.

So I guess I need advice and tips from outsiders, what do you think I could do with my blog to improve it and make it more organized? Do you think it's good that I wrote about anything and everything on my mind or should I narrow down the focus a bit?

Any helpful tips reguarding content would be much appreciated!

I just wrote a very similar comment to a very similar question. I'll say the same thing here.

Don't worry about having a "theme." You are blogger who writes about whatever YOU want to write about! That can be your theme! I blog about whatever I want to blog about, and I feel like that is when my best writing happens. When I am writing something I don't care about, I feel like it is just not as good.

I also prefer (and I know quite a few people who do as well) the blogs where I don't know what to expect. Life is unexpected, and therefore blogs about a person's life should be the same. A personal blog, in my opinion, does not need to have a theme. So ignore the people who say it does. They simply won't follow your blog. But there are so many other people who will.

So just keep doing what you're doing!

Copied and pasted from the similar thread:

"I'm not an experienced blogger but I remember reading somewhere (I wish I saved the link) there are two types of blogs: about you blogs and about me blogs.

My 2p is this:

If you're writing a blog that's for the reader then it's more important to have a theme, or themes. Your readers are expecting you to regularly cover certain topics etc, and to either be entertaining or informative.

If you're writing an about me blog then you ARE your theme. My gut instinct is that you are less likely to break through and have this sort of blog as a sole source of income, but you'll form closer connection with your readers. Dooce is a great example of a successful about me blog."

From what I've read and what I've scanned through so far you seem pretty consistent in what you write (although the last 2 weeks do seem to have a little blip going on). The categories listed on the right seem to make sense.

Perhaps try to work out what your most popular posts are, and if you like writing those sorts of posts you know that there's an area you can focus most of your efforts into. I think too narrow can be as offputting as too wide.

I'd skip the posting of song lyrics unless you are adding a paragraph or something of your own about why you posted that particular song. Perhaps embed a youtube video of the song in there too?

Only thing I'd really change though is the header image to something that better reflects your blog.

Hi Ashley,

Even I have a blog about random thoughts. I just write whatever I feel like sharing with my readers. So I would advice do not belive what others say about blog topic...if you are happy to share everything in one blog, den do it... Topic doesnt matters, quality of ur blog matters. This is what I feel...at the end of the day we should be content and readers will automatically appreciate your blog.

Regards,

Sneha

My blog is a bunch of jumbled thoughts as well and that's definitely not a bad thing! You should write about what you want to write about. In essence, if you're writing about what's on your mind, that's what your blog is about.
