The Bloggers With The Most To Say

Hey guys

I've been thinking for a couple months now of changing my blog from blogspot to wordpress. Would be greatfull to hear from anyone who has made the switch. Is this a wise idea?

Thanks

Shun, shun the nonbeliever. Shunnnnnnn.

What don't you like about it, BtW?
The layout of it mainly :(
I have been thinking about this too...but not really sure If I want to. Would love to read some more feedbacK! :)
Haha, that's strange, I've been thinking about swapping from Wordpress to Blogspot/Blogger so I can start following people!
I agree... I'm a blogspotter... and I wouldn't switch because I hate that you can't "follow" people
You can still follow people through your google reader, just because they don't have a blogspot blog doesn't mean you can't follow them. All it means is you copy and paste their url into your reader and boom, your following.

This.

I've never really cared for blogger.... but yes, you can follow people on wordpress.com, but they use the word "subscribe" instead of "follow". Same thing.  And just like blogger, it's wordpress specific.

So you can continue to be limiting!  ... which is why I love my Google Reader (or really ANY RSS reader).  I can follow any blog I want, regardless of where it's hosted, and I can organize them how I want.

And really... Go read Nick Tabick's comment.  Test out wordpress, see if you like it.  It's your blog.  So it's your opinion that matters.  If you don't like how a site is set up or the layouts available, then switch!  If people really like your blog they'll follow you over and continue to read regardless of what platform you're on.  :)

I haven't made the switch myself (mostly because I've been running self-hosted WordPress since I started blogging way back when), but I'm going to say the same thing I say in every other switch thread.

Don't take what others love or hate about a particular platform and turn it into your own opinion - go form one for yourself instead. Sign up for an account and play around a bit to familiarize yourself with what you'd be getting yourself into if you do decide to go through with the switch. You don't even have to publicize the fact that you've registered if you don't want to, and it means that you reserve your blog/username in case you decide that it's not the time and then come back to the decision in the future. You may find that you don't like the options you're given for themes or that you have to pay for feature XYZ that you would really use.

To put this another way: you wouldn't buy a car without taking it for a test drive, would you?

I volunteer support time in the WordPress IRC channel, so I should be able to answer most questions you have. Feel free to drop me a line or start a thread in the Help Desk.
Side Notes:
  • RSS isn't limited to Blogger or WordPress.com. I'd recommend using an RSS reader in either case simply because you're not limiting yourself to just WP.com or Blogger blogs (depending on what you're using to read in the first place).
  • Blogger's default RSS feed is at "/feeds/posts/default" .
  • WordPress.org blogs in various configurations do not necessarily recognize "/feed" as a valid path, and obviously the RSS will be in a different location on sites using another CMS (if they're offered at all). Look for an RSS symbol or the RSS icon in your address bar to get feedback on whether the blog (or other site in general) has an RSS feed you can subscribe to. While this indicator is dependent on certain tags being placed in the page you see, it's popular enough to rely on it.
I don't know anything about blogspot... but i'm on wordpress and adore it. :)
Thanks Guys

The feedback has been great I'm gonna take what you've all said and think about it some more :)

Thanks

When I started a new blog, I went from Blogspot to Wordpress.com. I like the layout of Wordpress better, though as someone already said, they both have their pros and cons. Try signing up for Wordpress without officially switching just to see how you like it. If you like it, you can switch, if not, you can stay.
