Cervical Cancer - any survivors, caregivers or know anyone who had it?

I saw that someone posted about breast cancer recently, so I figured why not post something about cervical cancer.

I was diagnosed with cervical cancer in October 2006 at the age of 23. I went through intensive radiation and chemotherapy treatments and I have been in remission for close to a year now. Since my diagnosis, my best friend and I started a non-profit organization called Run 2 Inspire. Our mission is to raise awareness for HPV and cervical cancer.

80% of ALL sexually active women will test positive for HPV by age 50. Nearly 3,700 women died of cervical cancer in 2008. But this deadly disease is 100% preventable with proper treatment, education and awareness.

I am reaching out to the 20SB community to find out if anyone knows anyone who has been affected by HPV or cervical cancer. I'm looking to network with survivors, patients, medical professionals, caregivers and family members with a connection to cervical cancer.

You can visit my website to find more information on my organization -- www.run2inspire.com

Also - watch out for me in the September issue of GLAMOUR magazine, hitting newstands at the end of August!

I've had two different laser procedures for severe dysplasia - that thankfully have regressed. I've also been treated (off-label) with Gardasil with hopes of suppressing the active HPV strains. Congratulations on your organization and best of luck! I'll be looking for you in Glamour :)
