The Bloggers With The Most To Say

I kind of wanted to drop out of Business School - I'm in my third year and have a year and a half to go. I'm doing pretty badly at it - poor grades and all that jazz. But not because I'm stupid. It's because I wanted to do a degree in journalism and was never allowed to. I guess this is my very own way of rebelling. I was now planning to actually just drop out of college and head towards the west. For perspective, I am from Pakistan, and looking towards going for UK, USA or Canada. Does any one have any idea where I could possibly apply for work in a newspaper/magazine, considering I have not finished my undergrad as yet. And will probably transfer credits to a college where ever I go to wrap up this degree.

Need help. If you want more information, let me know. Thanks.

What do you mean?
are you going all the way with the business thing
I honestly dont want to. Anything to get out of this rut. :(
Depending on where you wind up, you could also consider taking a college journalism course, rather than a university one to save both time and money. Where I live (Canada), I was able to complete my college diploma in two years. With my diploma I was prepared to enter the workforce and held a job as a newspaper reporter/photographer for two years before my position was eliminated due to cutbacks.

It can be tough to find work in journalism right now, newspapers and magazines are folding all over the place, but if it is what you are passionate about then you'll find a way to make it work. You just might have to be a little creative with it.
yeah, dropping out of business school to start all over in another country, not a good look. You shouls finish up your degree and look into possibly getting a second degree in journalism.
hi i am kindz in you position too, i love photography and writing bt i am doing computer science, i dont mind bcuz i love studying...i will advise you to handle this situtation the way i am handling mine, carry on with biz, get the degreee, if u want to do something about writing you could find newspapers or magazines that hire freelance writers. after you degree if you get a job save up, and then maybe youll be able to study journalism too. in the meantime, focus on biz, practice your skills and dream.
There is no point in doing something that you don't like. Seriously. I write a blog about it. I think the UK, US or Canada would be a good fit for you. Maybe don't even look to jump right back into school. Maybe you need to take a step back and figure out what you really want to do- work at a magazine or newspaper for a while and see how you like it. Take it from there. But don't stay in school doing something you don't like. Its a waste of time and money.
Bored@work, there's just a year to go. It seems really foolish to drop out of undergrad at this stage. Sigh.
With only a year to go I'd finish. You do no need a journalism degree necessary to be journalist.
I have two friends currently working in journalism whose degrees are in Anthropology and History respectively.
I guess. i'd say there's your answer right there. You are going to finish it and then see what happens. Cooper is right that you don't need a journalism degree to be a journalist. I guess that for me, having done something I hate every day for 2 years because I had to, the option to just walk away and try something different is sooooooo appealing to me!
We can only give our opinions but with so little time left, it seems wise to finish what you started. There are a lot of business newspapers and magazines and you may have an edge if you come from a business background.
