The Bloggers With The Most To Say

What do you do is someone steals your words?

Both Lindsay (http://www.birdykins.wordpress.com) and I (http://hannahmiet.com) had our words stolen and remixed by "The Reluctant Laundress" (http://reluctantlaundress.wordpress.com/2010/01/25/verging-on-a-nig...) without credit.

I have a creative commons license, and left her a comment asking for credit or removal. What would you do in this situation? And has this happened to any of you before?

Amen. Rock on, sista. It's you and me against the big, bad, plagiaristic world.
I wrote a blog entry about something specific and saw that someone who follows my blog wrote about the exact same thing afterwards. Maybe it's pure cooincidental, or maybe she was inspired.. I don't know... It's ok I guess

I think copying a topic is okay, so long as if it's real soon after the person you got the idea from posted it (and especially if they follow you) you mention where you got the idea from.

I did that earlier this week, as one of the bloggers I follow made a fun post talking about all the past jobs they've worked throughout the years. I thought it was a cute idea and wanted to share mine as well, so I made a similar post, but I did mention where I got the idea from and linked it back to her.
Sweet nelly, that is the worst. It happened to me once - it was over a year ago now. Luckily, a sweet bloggy friend let me know that she had read a couple posts on a new blog and they sounded eerily like things I'd written lately. I went to check it out and was FLOORED. The girl basically copied my posts word-for-word, except changing a few words to fit her life. I was furious. It wasn't a matter of quoting me incorrectly or something - she straight up took my words and used them as her own! And one post was a sweet note I'd written to my husband. She just changed the names and a few detail in the post. Now that's just plain creepy.

Anyway, I contacted her several times and she finally took down the posts without saying anything to me - except for a bunch of hateful comments on my blog calling me a liar. I wanted to point out how many people saw the posts before she'd taken them down, but decided to just wash my hands of it. Interestingly enough, she had plagiarized one of my other bloggy friends before she took my posts - it's like the girl would steal someone's posts until she got caught, then make another blog and start all over again.

Ahhhhhhh. I don't get people sometimes.

Anyway, in your case? If she doesn't take down the posts or answer any of your comments, I'd say contact the blog host (Blogger or whatnot). I know that they've taken action in taking down blogs that are stealing other people's posts before.

Best of luck! I know how absolutely ridiculous a situation like that can be. People are totally ridiculous sometimes.
I can't see the post anymore (does that mean they made it private or that it was taken down? Hopefully the latter!), but that's ridiculous that they would directly copy words. If it's a matter of being inspired, I still think credit should be given where it's due. Sorry you had to go through this!
Oh Em Gee...that's not good. I think if you just let the blogger know that you're aware of their shadyness and if they don't immediately remove or give credit...blast their ass all over the internet...reputation is everything in the blogosphere. I wish my writing was worthy of stealing...:)

Good luck...
Thanks for the support, everyone. She took it down.

But it's still kind of surreal.
I don't GET that. I mean why do people think that is acceptable? I once (back in my myspace days) stumbled upon a blog of a girl I knew in real life and discovered that for about a year she had been copy and pasting my posts as hers, just changing the names in my stories. I thought it was completely bizarre. So I wrote a post about it, although I did not call her out by name. And then she removed her entire blog.

The thing is, my blog is a personal blog. Why would you copy that? It's not at all an accurate representation of your own life. I have a CCL on my blog, but really I'm interested to see what people do about that. I do not mind people reposting PARTS of my material with proper credit and a link, but you'd never copy a novel and claim it as yours, so why do people think blogs are any different?
