The Bloggers With The Most To Say

I read a blog post this morning about people who used to be witty and engaging on their blogs but have somehow lost their touch. Quite a few blogs that I used to have on my reader are now not nearly as readable as they were when they were added, but there's a small part of me that would feel bad taking them off (although it would make keeping up with the really good blogs easier if I had less to read!)

How often do you "de-reader" someone, and what would it take for them to be taken off your must-read?

i'm too new to the blogging world to have de-readered anyone - but i suppose if i found myself only reading the first bit of posts and losing interest.. or if i didn't look forward to new posts from a person anymore.. if it became more DUTY than curiosity - then i'd give'm the sack.
I don't have a reader - I just skim whatever blogs I come across during the day. But if your reader is being overshadowed with blogs you'd rather not read, better to just ditch them and read the ones you're still interested in. Otherwise, you may end up avoiding your reader altogether and missing out on the ones you enjoy.

Feeling a little bad about removing someone seems normal, but why spend time reading something you've simply lost interest in? Seems to be a waste of time, if you ask me.
Funny, I was just thinking exactly the same thing myself!
I haven't experienced that myself; usually I find that I get so used to someone's voice that even if their writing isn't the same, I still want to know what they have to say and doing, like an old friend.

I did de-read someone once because they were so up and down with their emotions due to a horrible relationship. At first it was interesting, but then I realized that none of her friends (or visible readers) could step in to help; with the amount of entries she had accumulated, it was obvious that she wasn't going to leave this guy anytime soon. Reading all about it made me feel really awful and I couldn't stand seeing a girl do this to herself anymore. So...no more!
I actually have a two blog-system.

First up, everyone goes into a Favourites folder and I look at those blogs every 3-4 days. If after a few weeks I find I am commenting/interested in the blog, I *then* add them to my Reader.

Once in my Reader, the likelihood is I won't de-reader that blog as they've passed the test!

Ooh - I sound so judgemental! :s
I have only a small group of blogs I read on a schedule and I'm fairly loyal - often allowing their bad spells to pass. I have very few blogs on my reader mostly news and policy reads but I do have a home google page full of blogs which allows me to skim he titles of the posts for the day. It takes me awhile to add blogs, I ad very few, so I always allow some time to pass before I take them off.
Anyone that catches my interest goes into my reader after I chuckle at their first post. Then if it's been a few weeks (or months) and I'm not feeling it anymore, they go into a sub folder marked "if there's time." I skim it every once in awhile. I very very rarely take someone off my reader. I feel like if something drew me to them once before, maybe we'll have that magic spark again. And if not, at least I have loads of backlog in my reader for days when I'm home sick and bored.
Really liking the "if there's time" idea... then I wouldn't feel quite so bad!
When I add new blogs to my reader I tend to put them in a folder called "Blogs to Try Out" and if I start to like them they move up to "Blogs I Like" and "Blogs I am Following". If I don't like them I take them off. I think everyone goes through a patch where it seems boring but we have to remember I lot of people are writing blogs for themselves like I am and you do tend to write about anything which probably won't interest a lot of other people.
Yeah I guess I was thinking a similar thing. In which case... I need some new GOOD blogs as quite a few have just become standard.

The other thing I'm not liking is when a writer thinks their blog is popular and therefore thinks they can write anything and assume people will read, enjoy and comment. I think that's a little egotistical, I still want something good to read!
I don't unsubscribe from personal blogs because I expect them to change over time. I do however unsubscribe to industry related blogs if I feel they aren't keeping up to speed with the times and current issues.
I use the "i'm following" feature on blogger to keep up and I have only "cleaned it up" once since I started blogging. That was mainly due to bloggers becomming inactive or relocating their blogs. I think if you read someone for a while you build up a bit of a friendship which isnt so easy to just delete..
