The Bloggers With The Most To Say

Garf

Did you ever feel that fellow bloggers are following your blog without any comments?

It has happened with me a couple of times when the people following my posts doesn't put up a comment. Looks like they were but somehow they tend to be busy writing their own. When i read them all and follow them up with comments which i feel is a necessary motivation for most to write, is it too much expecting the same? Is blogging all about posting our self ?

I don't think blogging is all about comments and people definitely shouldn't feel obligated to comment. Many people just love to read blogs. I definitely have more subscribers than I do commenters.

I also think many people write for themselves and not for the comments. While engaging in conversation is great and an added perk, it's definitely not why I write.
I don't think that comments are a necessity to remain motivated and keep writing. Like Jamie said, I don't feel obligated to comment. Sometimes what I wanted to say has already been said. Some people are more voyeuristic and enjoy reading a blog.

Personally I write for the sake of getting thoughts out of my head. If someone reads it, but doesn't comment, I'm okay with that. I'm honored that they even took the time to stop by and check things out. I feel like people who write for the rewards often burn out. You can tell the difference between someone who's writing because they love it and someone who is just seeking a reward.
I agree with Jamie, I don't think that blogging is all about comments and I wouldn't want people reading my site to feel obligated to comment.

That being said I am a shameless attention whore who loves comments, so um yeah, I see where you're coming from (not that you're an attention whore, just that you also like comments, I recently woke up and may not be making sense yet, where am I again?).
lol, aren't most of us shameless attention whores? Or is that just you and me? :o)
I agree with all these people... I originally started my blog for myself, not expecting anyone to follow & read it. It's still not blown up into some huge blog that millions of people follow or anything but I don't expect it to become a place for people to follow and start debating on my posts. I just write because I want to- I know that if you follow my blog you read what I have to say but you don't necessarily need to have something to answer to whatever it is I write about!
Ok ok ..i get it. Somewhere deep down i felt the same about blogging being a way for saying what i had in my mind and an outlet for things inside. But you know..human that i am...i also love readers and comments. Sometimes, you wonder, how refreshingly new their ideas and suggestions might be. Nez...it seems...we have loads of mass going for the self blogging ways...and i think it's right...being honest and being self.
Blogging is great, you are free to write about whatever you want and whenever you want to. I love the comments but I don´t expect everyone to leave one. I follow so many blogs that I just don´t have the time to leave a comment on every single one but I still read them everytime that there is an update.
Like what many other people have said, I don't expect everyone who reads my blog to comment. That being said, I really do like it when people comment. I like hearing what people think about what I'm writing. While I am primarily writing for myself, I am always pleased when other people are inspired enough by my post (whether positively or negatively) to comment.
I have to admit I'm sometimes known to follow with out commenting. In fact I probably only comment when I feel its significant. I wouldn't want my fellow bloggers to think that I don't enjoy their writing...maybe I should make more of an effort.

Hmmm...I've made a mental note...Comment more.

Anyhow...Happy blogging, take care
I wouldn't assume followers are readers, people follow you so you'll follow them it doesn't mean they read you though they may.
If you wonder get a meter and see how long people are staying at your blog. Otherwise enjoy posting to your hearts content and don't worry do much about comments. Some posts are not easy to comment on, and it's hard to have time to comment on every blog you read.

Can I mention something, no offense intended, it is rather hard to read your blog, at least on my desktop and my monitor is large. The background and the color of the typography makes it almost painful on my eyes. And I don't think it's the dreadful hangover either.
I can see what you mean. I used to read blogs and never comment but now that I am a blogger, I appreciate comments and try to leave a comment on blogs that I follow. Maybe not every day, but most days, especially if I do have something to say. I've noticed sometimes that I'll comment on someone's blog and they won't comment back on mine... if this happens a LOT and they never comment on my blog then I kinda quit commenting so much on theirs. Maybe that's bratty of me though.

But I guess in the end, blogging is supposed to be just for yourself, like everyone says. But comments are just so nice to receive. :o)
Getting feedback on your writing is nice, but it should never be the reason why you write. I say write for yourself and if you get comments - great! And if you don't, figure out why it bothers you so much. Because really, it shouldn't be an issue and certainly shouldn't upset you.

Most people read blogs via an RSS Reader (like Google Reader), so while you may have many subscribers and other people who visit your blog and read, only a small percentage of them usually leave a comment.

For example, my blog has 1,500 subscribers but my posts don't receive 1,500 comments! The point is, not every reader is going to comment and that should be ok. And just because you leave a comment on someone else's blog, there's no unspoken rule that they are obligated to read and comment back on your blog.

If you get yourself tangled up too much in the "politics" of blogging, you surely will burn out fast. Blogging is something that should be fun for you, not a chore. And it should be something that helps you release stress, not add to the stresses of your life.
