Permalink Reply by Sammy K on January 2, 2011 at 8:45pm It's really interesting reading the responses to this discussion. Some people are doing their passion and all of that, which is awesome! But it seems like a lot aren't. In a way it makes me sad because we always dream of working a job that we LOVE and making a different either in other peoples lives or our own. But at the same time... is it even possible for EVERYONE to do their passion for a living? I don't know. But at the same time, does your passion have to be your job? I think of my family and the jobs that they have. A lot of my aunts & uncles and cousins have jobs that are more blue collar or work as secretaries and such, and I'm not sure if that is their passion or not. But their lives aren't defined by their job. Their passion is their family and friends and what they do outside of work. I think what you do outside of your job is just as important as your job.
I'm not sure if I am doing my passion. In a way I am. I got my degree in Youth and Drama ministry. That's what I'm doing .... well, at least the youth part. But there is a lot in my job that isn't as enjoyable. Like the time I spend in the office. I don't spend as much time with teenagers as you would think I do. I also am not doing as much with theatre as I would like. I try to in my spare time, but it's hard. One of the things I want to work on for 2011 is getting a life outside of my job, because I'm learning that's just as important.

As I've gotten older and worked a few jobs I've realized that not everybody is fit to take the risk of chasing their dreams. Many people are satisfied and content with having a steady job, a pay check every 2 weeks, and working in a structured environment. There's nothing wrong with that because we need assistants, accountants, nurses, lawyers, and blue collar workers to keep the world going round.
But I'm a firm believer in "do what you love you will never have to work a day in your life" I really believe that is the key to ultimate success. I currently work a "job" but I recently was acquired by my favorite site as a blogger. I dont get paid but I get to blog on what I really love: DJing and music. I really hope it leads to bigger and better things and eventually I can say I do what I love for a living.
