The Bloggers With The Most To Say

I recently went from using my name (ie Benny), or a nickname derived from it (ie Bennytheshoe) for my Twitter account and one of my blogs. But I recently changed them all to the name of my blog (Young Urban Amateur). And so far (it's only been like 2 days) I actually feel much better. It's almost like the personal stuff feels less personal.

Has anyone else made that same transition?

And has anyone else noticed that the internet started out as something where you wanted to be anonymous (see most hotmail, yahoo, or juno account names), evolved into something where you used your real name (see Facebook and most gmail account names), and is now becoming slightly more anonymous again?

The last paragraph, I completely agree with.  Until very recently I had my last name included in my blog, my twitter, and my email account associated with those.  I recently changed my twitter, blog, and email to be anon.  I still use my first name but my last name, other than to those who I've known for a while online, is nowhere in sight.  When I first started blogging, using MySpace, etc, I was completely anonymous.  Then, when I switched to Facebook, I gave up the anonymity and went for my full name and now that I'd like to change to an alter, Facebook doesn't allow that.  So yea, I completely understand where you're coming from.

I have a FB account with my real name, but that's mostly for family, Farmville (uses the most for this. haha) and such and is available to search. I have a second FB account with my 'alter ego' of sorts where I throw all my blogging and more personal things.

My email, twitter, blog and whatever else social networking site I happen to sign up for all use my 'alter ego' name.

I've actually gone the other way - I have an online alter ego (I've gone through several), and after a point, it felt like I was trying to live up to the name. And since I hope to be published one day, I figured that I was going to have to use my real name eventually. I guess I want the recognition. I'm kind of a review whore. ;)
