The Bloggers With The Most To Say

So I'm very curious about this...When you comment on someone else's blog, do you like for the blog author to reply to your comment? Do you like it when they interact with you, or would you prefer to leave your comment and get on with your life? Or would you just like them to return the favor?
What are your thoughts on this?

I don't really have a preference. When I make a comment on a blog, I don't expect the blog author to respond to me, I'm just leaving my thoughts on their post, maybe offering up a story of my own. If they choose to reply, it's cool, too :)
I think in general on smaller blogs it is the interaction that makes the blog, so in some cases it matters. I do check on the blogs I read regularly to see what the blogger said after my comment, but that is only on a the very few blogs I've been reading for years otherwise, unless it was one of those long debates, i don't check to see if people responded to my comment. On the other hand the people who read my blog liked it when I added threaded comments now they can even comment to each other.

When I first started blogging at blogspot I got few comments and when I did I didn't respond to them..it was a long time ago but I remember getting an email telling me I was suppose to comment back..I was like wtf.
Now I do respond but if it's a bland comment from someone new I've never seen I often don't.

I sometimes turn off my comments when I don't really think I want to have comments, such as on a post in which all comments would be gratuitous, or if I am not going to have time to respond.
I don't think there is really a right or wrong answer, for me I don't really care unless I enter a long discussion on a policy blog somewhere, then I check.
I don't really have a preference. It's nice to get a response, but I don't expect it and not all of my comments warrant a response. Honestly, if the blogger responds to the comment on his/her blog (rather than by email), then I'll probably miss it. It's pretty rare that I go back to a post I've already commented on. If it's a blogger who I know responds to comments, then I try to remember to go back, but I usually forget since the blogosphere moves so quickly with new posts every day.

I respond to comments pretty selectively, depending on the comment itself and if I have time. I feel like my time is better spent reading and commenting on the blogs of my blog friends rather than responding to their comments on my post. I do most of my interacting by email or twitter.
Its good to get a discussion going. If nothing else, it provides some material for a follow up post.
Aye, I find comments often take my thinking on the topic further. Also, I haven't always said everything that's on my mind in the actual entry, and comments allow me to flesh out my thoughts!

I really dislike it when people don't respond to my comments. I often put a lot of thought into my comments, so it would be nice if people take it on board. Sometimes I don't even know if someone reads comments on their blog. Just a simple 'Thanks for all the comments!' after a day or two would be nice.

I always subscribe to comment notifications by email, hoping the blog owner replies to me :)
It's nice to get responses, but I don't expect them. I only comment when I have something to say or add and I expect the same from my readers.
I think it's nice to get a response or a return visit to your blog...it gets a bit annoying if you keep leaving comments and are just being ignored! If you don't read the comments on your posts, why not just turn commenting off?

That's just me though....
I like it when the blogger responds to my comment, though it's by no means required. I do this often, in the comments section, though I used to do it by email. I switched to commenting in the comments section because others might enjoy the discussion (unless it's personal). I also like to comment on their blog, too.
It's nice to know that someone read and considered my comment. But if I'm just aggreeing with something someone else said or telling them that enjoyed reading the post, then there is no reason for them to recomment.
I don't really mind either way to be honest. I like to leave comments on my comments, but I don't care if blog owners reply to my own comments when I leave them on their blogs.

I think it's much more rewarding to me to have the blogger check out my blog and maybe leave some thoughts on one of my posts instead.
Sometimes if it is a blog I comment regularly on. Some people get so many comments though I can understand why they don't respond back. I try to respond back to people on my blog but then again, I usually don't have many comments to read and reply to.
Sure, why not? It's good to get a conversation flowing, especially if it's on a controversial post or a post where you want the reader's feedback on something.

Plus, sometimes the comment section is more entertaining than the post itself! So I'll do my best to comment back to other commenters. But as my readership base continues to grow, I'm finding it difficult if not nearly impossible to comment back to everyone. I think people understand this though.

And when I leave a comment on someone else's blog, I don't expect them to reply to me or even visit my blog in return. Just like I hope they don't expect me to comment on everything they say or visit their blog just because they stopped by mine.

In short...while replying to comments is not required, it's nice to do if you have the time.
