The Bloggers With The Most To Say

So I'm very curious about this...When you comment on someone else's blog, do you like for the blog author to reply to your comment? Do you like it when they interact with you, or would you prefer to leave your comment and get on with your life? Or would you just like them to return the favor?
What are your thoughts on this?

I really wish that Google would introduce that feature into Blogger.
Hm, Blogger does have 'notify me of responses'? Just below the annoying little letters you have to identify...
Like many people who have responded previously, I think replying to comments is really nice, but not always essential.

My favourite blogger almost always replies to comments - even if it's just to say "thanks!" or to acknowledge that someone took the time to visit her blog, read it, and then post her a personal message. I think this is part of the reason I like reading her blog so much, because she always responds to people, and it feels like she really bothers to get to know her regular visitors, even if they aren't bloggers themselves. I always check back on her posts to see when she's replied to my comments, but she also has this Twitter feed where she posts when she has replied to people (she tends to do it in batches, as she has many readers!). She always comes across very friendly and warm, and this definitely makes me want to keep visiting her blog. I feel like she genuinely appreciates her readers, and although her blog is already fantastic as it is, this makes me want to read it even more.

By no means do I find it particularly off-putting if someone doesn't reply to short, simple comments. However, I think if I'd really engaged with something someone had written and posted them a detailed comment, and then they didn't acknowledge it at all, it might make me less keen to engage with them in the future. If you interact with someone and then get nothing personal back, for me, it's not much fun. However, I wouldn't be personally offended or feel put-out, as it's clear people have very different attitudes about it!
Yeah, if it's something worth commenting back on. I enjoy conversation.
I rarely go back and read comments again, so if you reply to me that way I won't see it. I always e-mail my responses to comments that people leave on my blog. It's been a great way to develop relationships with other bloggers.
Thanks to everyone who has offered thoughts on this! It's been very helpful to me. Please continue to add your thoughts!
It depends on the type of comment I leave, and the way the author responds. If I ask a direct question, I definitely appreciate a response, either through my blog or by email. It annoys me when authors respond on their own blog but there's no notification feature of the reply - because I rarely remember where to check, or to check at all.
If my comment is just a statement, then it doesn't really matter whether the author responds to it or not. If I leave a particularly witty comment though, it's nice to get some acknowledgment.

Keep in mind though that interaction is how friendships are formed, so I think it's reasonable to expect a certain level of interaction from the author regardless of how popular their blog is - because presumably, they want to get to know their readers a little too.
Yeah. Just so you know you share the same or different ideas. If the blog author replies to your comment, it only means he consider you exists but if he doesn't reply due to some reasons, it's OK. It's not a big deal. The world doesn't stop there. It's better if he replies to my comment because he loves to and not just to return the favor.
I don't mind comments othem, I do it sometimes, especially when someone asks a question. The thing I don't like is when an author feels compelled to comment on every single solitary comment that has been left
I like when the blog author comments on my comment because it makes me feel like they care about what I have to say.
I have started a new feature on my blog where I reply to all the comments left on my blog for the past week in a blog post on a Sunday so everyone can see my responses and check out what everyone written in the first place.
I love interactive commenting!
