The Bloggers With The Most To Say

Sometimes it's really humbling to receive a pitch from a business/website.  At least the first few times...it definitely was for me.

It's just really annoying when the pitch is completely off topic for my readers...

Bloggers are also starting to become regarded higher in the "media" hierarchy. As bloggers become more "professionally regarded", they can expect to get more pitches, same as traditional media outlets.

Do you like getting pitched?  Do you ever accept pitches?

not to sound naive, but i have been blogging for five years and have no idea what youre talking about? could you expand on what you mean?
No worries (=

By pitch, I mean when a business, or website, or anyone contacts you asking you to write about their site, product, or whatever.

Since bloggers are becoming a bigger source of news, they're getting more pitches to write stories...the same way mainstream media gets pitches to write stories on different topics.

I'm asking if you, as a blogger, are open to people contacting you, asking you to write about something (ie. a topic, a product, a company etc...).
well, ive never had this happen to me but to answer your question. i guess i would be willing to write an article for someone if it was for a publication/topic/product etc that i would be willing to have my name associated with. maybe thats an overly simplistic way of putting it. but thats just off the top of my head.
Good question. I have gotten a handful of emails from companies about books, their services they may want to offer and even, wanting to write a post or mention them in one to get more people to be aware of what they offer and have. I do tend to like getting emails and seeing that others business and websites found me one way or another and they see that their products they pitch can be valuable to my blog readers. I do like getting pitched although I don't accept all of them. I have received a book and did a review on it, I have ran a book contest once, I mention cool websites that I think others should check it out. It all depends on what they are pitching in order for me to accept them and keep in contact with them and if it is interesting and valuable to me as well!

I am usually open to all media emails I get whenever I do get them. And if someone wants my thoughts or ideas about something that interest me or relate to what I'm studying in college, then I take that into consideration as well.
Good answer. I'm the same exact way. I'm open to any pitches...just not going to accept it if it isn't clearly valuable for my readers.

Would you ever accept money to write a post?
David, sorry for long answers. However, this is a community where the bloggers have the most to say!

Well, I never really thought of accepting money. It all depends on the where and the purpose of writing a post. It generally, it would be something I am least considering in writing a typical post. If I am to write a post and I'm offered money just for taking the time to write, than maybe I would. And this is just thinking about posting on my blog. However, if were to write a post for another blog or publication and they pay the writers than I'll take it into consideration. Never the less, money is something that can help for many reasons. And get money to write a post (and it is of my interest) than it will be taken into consideration.

Depends on the circumstances and how money is being offered. I may take the money but still I'll tell the person they wouldn't have to because in perspective I'll be writing a post because it interest me. Its like me not taking credit for me doing something although I respect that people are suppose to give credit where it is due.
Yea i know bloggers who would turn down a money offer if the pitch is actually really interesting to them. They'd rather talk about the site in a completely non-bias manner than take money and risk the trust of their readers.
I have never been pitched, but I'd welcome it I think. As long as it correlated with the content of my blog.
Same here. It hasn't happened yet, but I wouldn't mind it as long as it is related.
Truth. It will come. If you want to be pitched, you should make it clear that you're open to it. Either way, businesses are always looking to reach niche bloggers.
David, OMG you made it all the way from #u30pro to be here on 20sb.net. ;P

Hehe. I have been maybe once for a guest blog spot, other times I have asked. If I were pitched too many times, I would get drained from ideas...
haha I've actually been on 20sb for a lonnng time. It's where I first got started blogging! Admittedly I haven't been as active lately, but I hope to change that.

Pitches can actually provide you with ideas sometimes though. If you're struggling to come up with a post, having a site or tool to review can be a nice easy reliever for you.
