The Bloggers With The Most To Say

I've been on all sides - promoting blogs to get followers, not promoting blogs and not getting many followers, and not promoting blogs and getting a lot of followers.

Do you blatantly promote your blog? And if so, how? (I realize this site could be considered promotion, but to me it's just more of a community of people who love blogging).

I don't. The followers I have are all from 20sb. I'm thankful to have as many as I do because I am quite quiet on this site. I also don't want my blog to be in everyone's faces and make them feel like it's a must read.

check it.
I use a service called TwitterFeed to automatically send a Tweet out when I publish a new blog post. But other than that, I don't promote my blog.

I think it's all about networking. Joining sites like 20SB or BrazenCareerist helps. And just reading and commenting on other blogs to help build your own little blogger community is what most people do.
i don't really have any followers so i guess my comments are pretty worthless... but as a follower, i find it annoying as all hell when people come on too strong about getting involved in their shit

(then again, i have a lot of issues with the whole "personal branding" thinly-veiled narcissism that tends to pervade a lot of social media savvy people in our age group - i am hoping that sentence holds within it some semblance of coherence)
I love that you mention personal branding. I graduate in less than 2 weeks and all my professors are encouraging this "personal branding" through social media thing. I love social media for advertising purposes in regards to the industry I've been studying for 4 years, but at the same time, I struggle with whether or not I should be promoting myself with it. It doesn't feel genuine. I'm just trying to get a feel for what the norm is with our age group.
Personally, I HATE the personal branding kick. I vented on it not long ago.

So in celebration of personal branding/whoring...I'm going to whore out the link to the post I wrote. ;)

11/9/09 - You're Personal Branding Yourself As A Narcissistic A-Hole
You do make me laugh, David :P
I as well hate personal branding but at the same time wish my blog looked half as slick as some of those damned kids down the block
I agree! In my opinion, I don't personally find it attractive when people come out too strong upon promoting themselves, especially when they're making money off sponsors too.

I think the most humble way to promote yourself or your blogs are by networking. :)
The only thing I do is Twitterfeed, but as a person who loathes to have every social networking site 'pimping' out a site... I just stick to that one thing. =]
I take the same approach Sam takes. I'm not really about having a huge following or anything like that. I have a few followers on Blogger and that's fine with me. My blog is also linked to my Facebook and I have a number of followers there. I'm not about doing something blatantly out of my character or outside of the norm to gain a few more comments. If you like what I write and you feel the need to follow, then follow. If not, I'm not hurt. Life: The Juan Thomas Story is simply a watered-down public version of my personal journal. It really doesn't matter who follows or not.

also like. I lack followers myself, but I blog because I love doing it. I blog for myself and if people find it interesting they can follow! If not, I'll never know! :)
