The Bloggers With The Most To Say

Maybe it's just me. Maybe it's that little OCD tendency of mine. But I have a heck of a time trying to figure out how to tag some things.

I guess part of it is that I consider my blog something that I will want to go back and reread (don't we all?)... therefore, if I'm looking for a topic or post in particular, I'd like to be able to find it easily. I mean, I have the obvious tags... one for books, one for movies, quotes, cooking, travel, etc.

And then there are other posts. Like, I'm single and was blogging about a cute guy I met. How do I tag that? I mean... it wouldn't go under relationships.. so what would it go under? Or how about the posts where I'm talking about a camera I want... does that go under the photography tag or under a separate tag, perhaps called dslr or cameras? And then there's the fact that I have a tag called "getting healthy" and lately I've been blogging a lot about going to the gym. Maybe there should be an "exercise" tag or something to that effect...

I'm overthinking this, aren't I?

Does anyone have a similar problem? Have any suggestions? And what seem to be the top... I dunno 5? 10? tags that you use on your blog?

Yes, you've over thinking it. The best piece of advice I can give you is don't get too specific in your tags. If you do, you'll end up with too many tags and drive yourself mad!

For example, you said..."I'm single and was blogging about a cute guy I met. How do I tag that?"

I tag posts similar to that under a tag I call "Sex/Love/Relationships". It's broad and covers serious romantic relationships, dating, one night stands, or in your case a crush relationship.

The camera I would tag under "Photography" or maybe a "Gadgets" tag. And the posts you write about you going to the gym or eating healthier can just go under a general "Healthy Lifestyle" tag.

(And now all this tag talk has me needing to re-do my tags.)
I was wondering if maybe more tags were better but maybe you're right. Like, I was debating on doing a separate tag for movie reviews, but then I figured just to leave it under the broad "movies" tag.

Well I don't know about that Sex/Love/Relationships tag. Mainly because the cute guy I met was basically in passing and it might just be a mild flirtation and that's the extend of it. It's not sex, love or a relationship. Plus then (and see, I'm overthinking this again) if I'm blogging about someone else's relationships (as in today's post) if I used that Sex/Love/Relationships tag, would it go under the same tag? Or is that tag reserved for MY sex/love/relationships...?

I do love that gadgets tag, I'm going to use that. Same with the healthy lifestyle tag, I think.

Thanks David. :o)
Take a deep breath. Relax. And underthink this like a guy. ;)

Something tells me you are one of those girls who likes to label her relationships. Like when you are dating a guy, you want to know what your "label" is - are you his girlfriend, just a friend, a fuck buddy, an acquaintance, etc?

Just teasin' you. I couldn't resist giving you a hard time since you seem to be struggling with relationship labels.

I don't know what you should label the cute guy you met. Maybe create a tag called "Hottie Tottie" or "We Could Have Been Lovers"?
Omg, "we could have been lovers" cracks me up!

I think part of it might be that I'm trying to keep it borderline clean in the off chance that a co-worker/prospective employer stumbles across my blog. VERY off chance, since I don't use my full name but better safe than sorry... especially since, with my flickr pics and all, it's not hard to put everything together and come up with me.

Ha and no, in fact I refused the label girlfriend in my last relationship for the longest time. :p Probably for a good reason too.
Originally it was "We Could Have Been Star-Crossed Lovers"

Be thankful I changed it. ;)
here here,
I just happened to go look at my tags after you reading your post that.. ...way too many pages of tags. Just use a few if you have a decent archive page you should be able to find thing easily enough.

My most heavily used tags are society, politics, sexism, and cooper culture, unfortunately I have about forty pages of other tags all used only once - those I am now getting rid of.

Wordpress also uses categories, which are different, I only have about fifteen of them and they are static.
Okay I never understood categories. It made me head hurt too much and I ended up calling every category the same as the tag... then I eventually just deleted all the categories. I can barely wrap my head around tags, categories were just making it worse.

cooper culture. I like that as a tag. I need to come up with something similar.
Hey, here's another solution...

Just get really lazy and super frustrated like me and lump everything into the generic "Uncategorized" label/tag. Brilliant! Then it's every man, woman and child for themselves when they sort thru my archive.
Ha ha I have a "curiousillusion" category... which is the only category I have (because, as I said, I couldn't understand the point of them) and basically means uncategorized.
How about I read "curiousillusion" and thought it was a real word! I actually read it twice, felt stupid and thought I need to look it up on Dictionary.com

Wow, it has obviously been a long weekend for me. Monday morning back to work is going to be rough!
Ha that's awesome. Good luck with the whole work thing then!
I go through this a little bit... then again, I have mild OCD tendencies too, haha. I usually over-think it when I talked about a lot of different things in a post and debate whether I should identify each and every topic in a tag. Usually I just get frustrated for thinking about it too much and move on - I don't let myself dwell on it.
