The Bloggers With The Most To Say

http://www.designlessthoughts.com/2010/07/question-to-all.html

I want to do a good thing.

I am thinking about donating my eggs.

It would be so great to  help a couple have a child.

I mean, I don't see anything wrong with it. It would be so rewarding.

Do you think egg donation is good, or bad?

I think it's good.

I personally don't know if I could do it, but more power to you. I think it's admirable.
dude, i wanted to do that 'cause they pay you serious money. but who'd want a foul-mouthed short latina's eggs? sadness.
if you are healthy, anyone would haha
yo i am the same way!
I wouldn't want my unique seed just passed out to whatever random person wants it. The girl has to earn it.
it isn't for you to choose. these things are anonymous. it shouldnt matter who gets it, it is about helping an infertile couple.
This comment cracked me up.
I actually just signed up to do this (wrote a post about it too), I figure we have several thousand eggs and i don't intend to have kids anytime soon. I might as well help some women get pregnant that wouldn't be able to otherwise. Plus i was an adorable baby. Who doesn't want a mini-Shirley temple?
Just out of curiosity, what agency are you donating through? I used Shelley Smiths Egg Donor Program and had amazing experiences with them. I still get e-mails from the women there! :)
Southeastern Fertility Clinic. I just filled out the 12 page medical history and I'm waiting on them to accept me fully into the program. Then its onto medical and psychological testing.
I would do it for the money. Absolutely. I don't care if it lowers my chances of infertility at all; I'm fine with a stranger raising my genes!

BUT - I don't think egg donation is necessarily "good". Couples are creating their ideal baby when there are PLENTY of orphans around the world. Excess love, excess children, zero population growth--adoption makes sense! I don't think invitro should be banned or anything, everyone is free to make their own choices, but in my head, adoption is the more moral choice.
Sure adoption is the moral choice, but its so expensive to adopt children in the USA. And they have very strict regulations on who can adopt, a lot of the time if you can get pregnant on your own they won't let you adopt. Then there is always the chance of the birth parents coming back to claim children after they have signed their rights away.

Plus, some women really want the experience of being pregnant. I doubt that the majority of people who do invitro are looking to create an ideal baby, especially as its so hard to get specific genetic traits.
