My undergrad degree was in Communications and Literature. I loved it- I did English and Comparative Literature, Lit in translation and post-colonial lit- all awesome. <3

I think a lot of it has informed my perspectives in life and how I approach things. A feminist literature class (coincidentally right after a Development Communication session) really made me decide on my grad school programme. I really like how the subject informs so many perspectives and is vast enough that anything can inform it too.
I got my undergraduate degree (wow, now that I think about it, it's been a while!) in English lit, concentration in American and British lit. I went to a fairly small regional public university, but the English department was top-notch. I absolutely loved it because of the variety of courses that were offered in my concentration. I took 3 classes on Shakespeare, one of which was Modern Adaptations of Shakespeare on Film, one on YA lit, one on Am/Brit Detective Fiction, and one on Irish/Scottish lit from the Celts to Irvine Welsh.
For someone who loves to read and write, it was the best choice I ever made. I've taught Lit and Writing to 11 and 12 year olds for the past 5 years, now!
yes! english majors unite! i studied english language and literature and wrote my thesis on contemporary immigrant fiction in the us. there are so many great books being published in this area right now! check out junot diaz's "the brief wondrous life of oscar wao" if you haven't already. so interesting.

and besides that, what about you, jeremy?

i'd love it if all you english people would check out my blog :)

I hope you're loving Wien <3 <3 I love that city.

Have you been Kafkaing it up yet? xx
no! i went kafka-crazy in praha, but i haven't seen so much about kafka here. i just re-read "the hunger artist" though... it was in an anthology of writing about wien and the thought was that it could be set in the prater. i live right by the prater, and at night, when it's dark but all the rides are lit up, it is totally ghoulish. have you been there? where are you now?
Yeah, I was in Austria for grad school a few years ago! I'll be visiting again (YAY) for the AIDS conference in July!

I love the prater, it's gorgeous. The photos you can take there- incredible! Aww, it's a nice place to live!

I used to hang out a fair bit at this little place off MariahilfeStrasse called Cafe Kafka- have you been? I typed out horrible directions for you, but google maps to the rescue! It's here.

I see you work in women's rights (snap!). How long have you been in Wien and have you had a chance to explore Österreich yet? x
AIDS conference, july. i'll be here! we should meet up and play! i'll go and check out cafe kafka soon too. i've been here since january, and i'm finally starting to feel at home.

not much chance to explore oestereich yet... but more later. can't wait to read more on your blog. woo hoo!
SERIOUSLY? You'll be at AIDS 2010? Awesome! We should definitely hang out and grab a few radlers. Are you attending any of the pre-conferences? x
ah! sorry. unclear response. i'll be in vienna, but not at the conference. so we should hang out and such. and if you need a place to crash, you can call me!
Ah so! Das ist klar!

We should definitely hang out when I'm in town. I may just take you up on the offer and you may just regret being so generous! ;)
xx
i majored in literature & i loved it! i miss writing papers. unfortunately, i also got certified as a teacher & all the edu jobs are being cut by me, so i have no idea what to do with my literature background.

at least i got to take fun classes in college. chinese literature, major authors: milton, shakespeare's plays, creation myths, & children's lit were my favorites.
