The Bloggers With The Most To Say

Morning!

So with the news that google is getting rid of GFC, I've been looking for another way to interact with my readers and places to direct them to follow me (in addition to google reader/rss, twitter, bloglovin etc).

And I have I have a couple of questions for my fellow bloggers :)

-Would you rather 'like' or 'follow' a fan page on facebook or google+? (g+ has fan pages now, I just found out). And why to either choice?

-Would you rather create your fan page on facebook or g+? Or both? And why?

-If you have a fan page...what kinds of things do you post to it? I recently cleaned up my facebook friends/liked pages and deleted most blog fan pages because all they posted was a link to their blog post for the day...but I already follow them on a reader, so why do I need to see the post again?

-As a reader, what would you LIKE to see on a fan page? Do you just want the links to posts or do you want more interaction and if so, what?

I know a lot of people think the fan pages are silly for blogs but I'm thinking I should make one because I'm also creating a business that incorporates my blog in addition to a few other things (services/products to sell) so I would make the page for my whole business not just my blog, which might help with my content/what to post problem but...yeah. lol

So any thoughts or insights on fan pages? Or where you will be directing your readers after GFC goes away? Thanks!

All right, here are my thoughts :)

-Would you rather 'like' or 'follow' a fan page on facebook or google+? (g+ has fan pages now, I just found out). And why to either choice?
I would rather like a fan page on Facebook versus Google+. My reasoning is simple. I don't have google+. I'm not going to get it just because a blog I love wants me to follow them on Google+ because I don't need yet another social network to manage and I don't think it has real lasting power.

-Would you rather create your fan page on facebook or g+? Or both? And why?
I would rather on Facebook, but that's kind of my only option since I don't have g+.

-If you have a fan page...what kinds of things do you post to it? I recently cleaned up my facebook friends/liked pages and deleted most blog fan pages because all they posted was a link to their blog post for the day...but I already follow them on a reader, so why do I need to see the post again?
Right now, I have a fan page, but I'm not really sure of the best way to use it. Mostly I use it for posting links to my new posts. I think it's helpful for people who may not necessarily be the kind of people to follow or read it in a reader.

-As a reader, what would you LIKE to see on a fan page? Do you just want the links to posts or do you want more interaction and if so, what?
I'm really fine with either. I don't have a preference. Whatever the person wants to do with the fan page, it is cool with me.

Those are my thoughts and I'm not sure if they're helpful but there they are!

thanks for the input! :)

I really hate having to use Facebook for anything other than looking at dumb pictures of my friends and keeping in touch with relatives. I follow absolutely no pages, because it's spammy and the format is terrible.

THAT BEING SAID, Facebook is how the majority of internet users, including your readers, locate content and reading material on the internet. Facebook is becoming most users' "RSS" of choice. I think pretty much any business has to have a Facebook page.

I really love the G+ format. Everything is clean, well-designed, and thoughtful from inception. However, most people do not use it. So while G+ fan pages are probably better in terms of usability, customization, and SEO, few will engage with your page unless Google Friend Connect users choose to migrate over.

For content on fan pages, I think people want to be alerted to new content and be able to engage in a more meaningful way than through isolated blog comments. They want to be able to "like" something without having to come up with anything to say, and they want the Fan page admin to "like" comments, pictures, etc., that fans may leave.

I think.

I don't use my own g+ page often but I do like the look of it better than facebook but you're right...most people aren't on g+ yet to make it worth it to not make a facebook page too.

There's more traffic in FB, I highly recommend it. I just started being more active last December, and it's helped my blog stats so much!

You have to be engaging, and the posts you put up has to be aligned to what your blog's theme and objectives are.

You'll also get to interact with like minded people, and start conversations. G+ is really dead right now, waste of time and effort.

Here's mine: http://www.facebook.com/bravethewaves in case you wanna check it out. Hope that helps! :)

glad to know it works well!

I definitely see the use of a fan page as somewhere to ineract with my readers. Twitter is great for interaction, but you can do even more on facebook or g+ :)

Thanks for the input!

I'm still on the fence about G+. I like it, but Ihaven't really gotten into my groove with it. Also, I already have a decent base on FB and having to maintain two fan pages (plus all of my other social media) seems tedious.

It's probably better to pick one that you like and stick with it.

I'm the same. I have a g+ but have never really used it. Maybe someday it'll be worth it to have a fan page on there too but facebook is still more popular/widely used I think.

:)

I use a FanPage on Facebook. Facebook has the RSS graffiti app where I can plug in my RSS and it updates my fanpage with new posts automatically, G+ doesn't have that functionality...yet..

I interact a little bit, I'll share giveaways from other blogs n' the like.

What I would like FB to do though, is allow the fanpage 'like' to count toward a page's 'like' total. Some people (myself included...) hate having FB Page spam on our personal profiles and it gets tedious sometimes to go and hide all them fanpages from the news feed.

Wait a second, if Google is getting rid of friend connect how are our current followers going to follow us? Where did you see this, do you have a link to the article?

Also, I have both a G+ page and a Facebook page. I use the Facebook just for posting my latest post and some times sharing little changes about the blog itself, but I get more traffic from Facebook. I think I've only gotten one or two hits from G+ and I've had it up and running almost six months.

Here's an article on TechCrunch about it. Some non-blogger blogs are making the move on to Feedburner subscriptions by email, signing up for BlogLovin', or good ol' RSS in your reader of choice.

Thanks. So... does that mean the follow button will be gone all together? Or is it just new followers? I didn't really get that out of that link. Ugh... this is highly annoying. I don't want to move my blog!
