The Bloggers With The Most To Say

I've noticed a ton of 20SB topics revolving around a similar theme: Leaving.

Whether it's short term (travel), mid-term relocation (out-of-state/country internship, study abroad, etc), or permanent departure (job? "fresh start"?), it seems a lot of us are on the move.

For myself, I've been blogging from Taiwan for the last 9 months. But that's nearing its close -- in September, I'll be returning to my home in California. Partly due to my travels here on and around the island, I know I will hit the ground running when I get back. I've already made a list of US destinations I want to visit and I don't know if how long I'll be in California before I get an itch to live somewhere else (considering moving back to Florida).

Is it just me? Or are we 20 Somethings moving around a lot?

Where are you going? What's got you on the move?

I noticed that, too! It seems lots of us are on the go!

I travel to and from Florida a few times a year for work (and to visit friends out there), and I do a lot of traveling over the summer. This summer, I've done Atlanta and I'm going to Orlando and Los Angeles in July (six days apart, ah!), and I'll be gone for most of the month.
You're all over! How fun! What do you call home? lol

And Orlando/LA 6 days apart? oof. Jet Lag much?
Home is in Louisiana (Baton Rouge), but I did move to Florida for a year in 2007. I was only supposed to be out there a few months, but decided to stay longer. Yay, spontaneity! I'm actually road tripping it to L.A with my family. Another spontaneous decision, haha! I wasn't going at first, but once I heard there was room in the car for another person, I jumped at the chance. I know it's a long drive, but I'm really excited about it. I love road trips!
awesome! I love road trips as well.
and I've also lived in florida.

i road tripped it there with my fam (from cali) and then a few years later, back with two of my best friends. good times. : )

On our way there, we stopped in New Orleans. My dad grew up around those parts, and even though it'd been a couple decades, he was able to find some of his local hang spots. it was fun. I loved New Orleans, would love to explore more of LA.
Cool cool! I want to explore New Orleans more. I've lived in Louisiana most of my life, but I fail to appreciate it for how "outsiders" see it because I have such a different view of it. I've never really gone out the to see what's there. I mean, I've been to all of the big spots (French Quarter, Boubon Street, etc...) but it's always been because I was doing something else, not just being there to explore and take things in, so I'd love to do that one day. I just haven't found time to yet.
Well I WISH I could move, living in a very conservative Indonesian family where every consideration of me moving anywhere will be brutally denied. Even moving to a different place in the same city, it's silly I have an apartment on my own but I can't live there yet. I just hope it'll be different when I graduate. So far I just travel a lot in holidays and I hope I can persuade them to move temporarily outside the country for taking my master degree.

It's exciting being in a new place and meet new people.
i think that's part of the allure.

we're young, occasionally reckless, and we like meeting new people out of our element.
my moves have been very small scale but since 2005 when i moved out of my parents house, i have moved a total of three times after that.. that's 4x total in 4 years. and i'm sortof planning my escape right now as well.. would love to live in Asia for a bit.. then back to the Pac. NW... maybe California. who knows *shrugs* my mind is very fickle.
In 9 weeks I'll be leaving the UK to travel around the world. First up is Africa, travelling overland from Nairobi, Kenya down to Cape Town, South Africa. Then Asia, where I will be going to India followed by an overland journey from Hong Kong to Singapore over around 4 months. Australia, New Zealand, South America and USA are all on the list too. I can't wait to get going! My blog is currently focussed on the preparations and plans for trip and once I get going it will be updated from on the road.
dan, that's too exciting. I'm already a fan of your blog, just from that description.

The Journey is the Destination.
It does seem to be a common thread. I moved 4 years ago, and had thought I'd have moved on by now, but I'm "stuck" in a good way. I don't WANT to leave: I have a good job, a good "family," great friends, and opportunities to reach out to others. I never thought I'd say I didn't want to leave RALEIGH.
that's great! maybe you found what we're all looking for :)
