The Bloggers With The Most To Say

Hey 20sb!

So I get to go to ENGLAND in February.  I've never travelled outside of the US before and I'm super stoked.  But I know nothing about travelling!  Do you guys have any suggestions for me?  They can be England-specific (places to go, cultural things to remember, etc) or general to travel (safety, preparedness, etc).  I'd be super grateful!

Thanks soooo much.  You guys all rock, you know.

I have family that lives in Oxford, and I've been to just about everywhere on the island. But it depends what you're interested in seeing while you're there:

- Like heights? I loved the White Cliffs of Dover and the Millennium Eye in London

- Like museums? The British Museum has hours of artifacts from all over the former British colonies (even the American colonies)

- Like history? I've never been to Hadrian's Wall, but it's on my list next time I go. The Tower of London could also be interesting (the Beefeaters do have an interesting history). Stirling Castle in Scotland is great (and is the site of the Braveheart movie)

- Church history? There's a whole list of churches all over England -- I believe most/all are associated with that UNESCO membership

If that's not enough for you, there is an awesome transportation network (as has already been said), and the Chunnel and the rest of Europe is not far away.

Where in the UK are you going? London is a fantastic city, full of so much culture and history. There are a ton of museums to go to (Royal Albert, British Museum, Museum of London etc) depending on your interests. You should def try to check out a play or musical in the West End. Great shopping but a lot more expensive in the US unless you are buying European brands. You should also have afternoon tea one day - and be oh so british! Hope you have fun, if you need anymore info about where to go in London please feel free to contact me. :)

I highly suggest going to Sally Lunn's in Bath! I had a wonderful experience there. I've been to England twice (my last visit ended when the riots started up), and I love it there. There's a really cute shake shop in Oxford called Shakespeare's. All of the drinks are named after Shakespeare characters and plays. I had the Othello shake, and it was without a doubt the best shake I've ever had.

If you're looking for something that's free, I really enjoyed Glastonbury and the Tor. Honestly, I found that to be a more breathtaking experience than Stonehenge, and it's not just because of all of the walking.

Have fun!

Oh. also the Tower of London is amazing, they have great tours! Also the London Dungeon is great but very gory. See the changing of the guards at Buckingham palace is very touristy and great.

Where are you going exactly?

My biggest advice is to never trust ATM machines that are independent from the big banks, unless attached to a supermarket (which are not independent by the banks as it may look), because you risk not to be able to get the money as it happened to me. I had to go by walk into another town for the lack of means of transport on a Saturday afternoon when I was supposed to be in bed for a sprained ankle.

And be sure to eat early, or have a place open 'till late at hand if you don't want to survive on cereal bars and Pomm-b är chips (again, personal experience).
